Default GEV ACES (FanMade)

The official LIGHT GEVs are 1/2 D1 M4-3 AU Cost .5 and the official GEVs are 2/2 D2 M4-3 AU Cost 1. These pilots were often called Hover Jocks, GEV-Jockeys (pronounced "JEV-Jockeys")...OGREs designated them as "Popcorn". Some of these GEVs were piloted by Aces. GEV Aces were usually referred to as GEV Aces (pronounced “JEV-Aces”) or simply "G E V Aces".

GEV pilots have pilot skills. A pilot with no skill is the official GEV and referred to as a GEV pilot. Pilots with skills of 0-6 are GEV Aces. The greater the skill, the greater the pilot and their reputation. The pilot skill is used to determine several things in combat such as which GEVs attack first in Overrun situations and their chances of avoiding Disable and X results. Pilot Skill rolls are made using a D6 and successful when the roll is equal to or less than the current Pilot Skill being used.

GEV Aces use a Hex Token with #s 1-6 on one side which represent the Aces current Pilot Skill. A Level 1 GEV Ace that is reduced uses the blank side of the Token to represent it. Pilot Skills can be reduced depending on the circumstances as described below. This reduction represents the Ace loosing their combat effectiveness.

A GEV Aces Pilot Skill (indicated on the Ace's Hex Token) is added to their attack and defense strengths which are based on the official GEV stats of attack 2 and defense 2 when making attacks or being attacked. For example, a Level 3 GEV Ace has a Pilot Skill of 3 and this is added to their base attack strength of 2 and defense strength of 2 giving them a attack strength 5 and defense strength 5.

* Aces may move either 4-3 or 3-4 hexes per turn. When their level is reduced they loose this ability (place a DAMAGED Token on the unit) and can only move 4-3 thereafter unless they make a successful Pilot Skill roll.

* Aces May not have to stop before crossing a Stream. Make a Pilot Skill roll when a Stream is about to be crossed. If failed they must stop and their turn ends. If successful they cross the Stream and are now on the other side. Their remaining movement is reduced by the amount the Pilot Skill roll was missed by. Any remaining movement may be used to continue moving.

* Aces can move over a Ridge if a successful Pilot Skill roll is made. If failed they are Disabled in the hex on the opposite side of the Ridge that was crossed with no Pilot Skill roll possible.

* Aces avoid a ram attack if they make a successful Pilot Skill roll if they are Disabled or not.

* When suffering a Disable from a attack or terrain the Ace rolls on their Pilot Skill and if successful they ignore it. If the Ace is Disabled and then gets a second Disable it results in a X which becomes an automatic reduction to the next lowest Level GEV Ace with no Pilot Skill roll possible. An Ace reduced from a Level 0 GEV Ace is destroyed. (It is possible to have their Level automatically reduced in this way as many times as the Ace is Disabled and then gets a second Disable.)

* When suffering a X from a attack the Ace rolls on their Pilot Skill and if successful the X becomes a Disable. If failed they are reduced to the next lowest Level GEV Ace. If reduced from a Level 1 GEV Ace to a Level 0 Ace they use the blank side of the Token to represent them and they loose their ability to make Pilot Skill rolls. They retain the ability to move either 4-3 or 3-4 and may still split their attack strength into as many attacks as they want.

* Spillover Fire affects Aces only if they fail a Pilot Skill roll. If other GEVs and or Aces are stacked with an Ace use the highest Level Ace and if they fail their Pilot Skill roll the entire stack suffers Spillover Fire.

* Aces may split their attack strength into as many attacks as they want even when reduced to Level 0.

* Aces use Overrun rules the same as other units with the following exceptions: Aces attack strength is doubled.
/
When the attacker has non-Ace units and the defender has a Ace or Aces, the defender attacks first.
/
When the attacker has a Ace or Aces and the defender has non-Ace units, the attacker attacks first if they make a successful Pilot Skill roll using the highest Level Ace. If the roll is failed, the defender attacks first.
/
When the attacker and defender have Aces, each roll a d6 and add the pilot skills of their highest Level Ace and the side with the highest roll attacks first. Ties are resolved with the defender attacking first.

SPECIAL RULE: Only effected by natural X results until they receive their first X which automatically reduces them to a Level 5 Ace. Thus, attacks on a Level 6 GEV Ace are rolled for one at a time. Only Disable results occurring after being reduced to Level 5 are considered.

Designer's Note:

The GEV Ace unit falls within Steve's guidelines published in SPACEGAMER #74 Pages 29,30:

"I would guess that 6 is the practical limit for
single-unit attack strength, with 8 the absolute
top." (Steve Jackson)

The Ace Of Aces, the highest Level Ace is attack 8 defense 8.

"I suspect that the defense strength of 4
(SHVY) is close to the maximum practical for
any single unit. I might believe a 5. I won't
believe a 6 until they come up with a better
grade of BPC." (Steve Jackson)

The rational/explanation is they came up with better Pilots and more advanced GEVs designated GAEV (Ground Air Effect Vehicle).
Most of the upgraded technology is inside, so they would look similar to the official GEVs from the outside.
The Aces better skill piloting the most advanced GEV gives them their maximum attack/defense of 8/8 in a level 6 GEV Ace.
A Level 6 "Ace Of Aces" will usually loose to a Mark5 as some indication of how the highest GEV Ace compares to other units.

Default Re: GEV ACES (FanMade)

The Paneuropean Federation found itself loosing momentum in the arms race once the North American Combine began fielding their inhuman OGREs. Superheavies, first introduced by the Federation proved to be superior to the more advanced Mark1 OGRE being deployed against them by the NAC. In fact, Combine was so sure of their new technological terrors, they chose to forego making their own Superheavy Tanks fielding OGREs instead. It was a costly miscalculation and one not rectified until they retroactively developed and fielded their own Superheavies to counter the Federations advantage they had with their own.
Combine did not stop development at the Mark 1. They eventually developed and invaded Paneurope with OGREs designated up to a Mark6. The Federation was able to begin fielding their own copies of many of the NACs OGREs however they continually found themselves behind in the arms race. This grim reality fostered and generated out of necessity a unique ability at innovation which was more human-centric than the NACs reliance on the inhuman war machines. Thus, out of the nuclear fires of the LAST WAR were the GEV Aces born. A human/machine hybrid weapon the likes of which was never seen before. The OGREs cold calculating AI was at odds to fully compute and understand them and their tactics. It was an edge that the Federation discovered and explored and developed and perfected. A narrow window of operational advantage they exploited at every opportunity. Combine had their own GEV Aces of course, but not as many and it was the Federation that pioneered them into the exceptionally valiant force they became that was able to help turn the tide of the LAST WAR in their favor.

Against The Giant

She was the most experienced and decorated GEV Pilot of the Paneuropean Federation. Her long career, first as a “Jev Jockey” then rapidly rising to that of GEV Ace was a harrowing and storied one. It's what landed her firmly in the seat she was now in. The most technologically advanced seat in the most advanced GEV piloted by the most skilled Pilot directly into the firing arcs and kill zones of a active enemy OGRE Mark5. This time the mission was not a simulation, the OGRE was real, fully functional and operating in real time. It was time to challenge herself like never before and rise to this deadly dangerous occasion. Their would be no reset button here. The most technologically advanced enemy AI Warmachine against the most skilled GEV Ace piloting the most advanced GEV in history...it was time to prove the Legend of the GEV Ace

(A variant Scenario of DUEL where you are fighting OGRE(s) VS OGRE(s). AGAINST THE GIANT has one side playing a GEV Ace or Aces against a OGRE or OGREs).
