As is ye. Which absent from modern English is frequently replaced in dialectic speech. I don't think that any dialects restore the informal "you" though, which is interesting.

Barbecuing is a type of cooking that can be applied to most any meat. Barbecue == pork. Any other meat can at best be "barbecued <something>."

The Mason-Dixon line was originally surveyed for the purpose of separating Y'all from Youse Guys, as I heard it.

Correct. "Barbecued chicken" or beef is a perfectly acceptable dish, but "barbecue" is pork -- smoked pork, to be specific. (Barbecued chicken might be done on a grill, for instance, and you'd still get away with it.)

Some more things to think about in the cuisine category:

Cooter stew
There is no food that doesn't go with cornbread
Pimento (or minner) cheese
If someone dies, their family will not need to cook again for two weeks
Collards and black eyed peas will be eaten on January 1

I know what Im cooking this weekend! 1 Cup sugar per blue box of Jiffy COrnbread mix :)

I was in my mid 20's before i found out many people dont eat sugar in their cornbread.

Are yams popular in other areas? We bake em like potatoes, cut em open and add butter and pepper, but that just may be my family.

Blue Bell Ice cream and Shiner Bock. Not together of course.

Slice "sweet tatters" thin , fry 'em in a skilett (cast iron pan) with butter and sugar til carmelised . This produces "Candied Yams" , which was a staple from My childhood .

That's just what They want you to think. It's actually to separate the American territory controlled by the Freemasons from that controlled by the Society of the Dixons.

All that holds true for Alabama and Tennessee, so I think we're good for the rest of the South.
