Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
Or the PCs could be attacked by voracious blood-weasels with anti-coagulant venom! Which, you know, is basically what DF2 actually says.

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
No problem. It's probably I should have clarified in my earlier post anyways.
I still want to feature Dire Komodo Dragons in a DF game. Especially after seeing them tear pirates to bits in Far Cry 3. =P |

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
I wrote an Agony Learned Prayer. This one seems pretty straightforward. I should make an area affect version, as well.
Agony Minimum Reaction: Neutral Learned Prerequisite: Divine Favor 5 Learned Prayer Cost:4 With this Prayer, a paragon can seize an opponent and cause them debilitating agony (Basic, page 428). The opponent resists with a HT roll. Statistics: Affliction (Agony, +100%; Contact Agent, -30%; Divine, -10%) [16] Edit: here's a similar Prayer for Armor. Afflictions are easy. Armor Minimum Reaction: Good Learned Prerequisite: Divine Favor 7 Learned Prayer Cost: 7 With this Prayer, a paragon can touch an ally and grant Damage Resistance of 5, as if the subject were wearing armor. Statistics: Affliction (Advantage, Damage Resistance 5, +250%; Contact Agent, -30%; Divine, -10%) [31] Edit again: I added these and another take on Continual Light to the second post. Halp, I cannot stop building Afflictions! Last edited by Dammann; 02-07-2013 at 04:13 AM. |

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
Please don't forget that Stop Bleeding stabilizes mortal wounds, which aren't stabilized by Minor Healing et al. That, I would say, is it's primary value - being able to actually stop bleeding is a nice little side feature.
Of course, every time we've used it there was a critical failure and it turned into Finish Bleeding, but that's our incredibly bad luck.

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
Saints and Warrior Saints are supposed to fill the Clerics and Holy Warriors niches, but I could only provide the minimum number of Learned Prayers, due to the curse of "over the word count". Still you don't need to replicate every clerical spell. I assume that you already perused Dungeon Saints, but did you check Saintly Power Ups? It will help you a little here. Also some of the effects should IMHO be done with Auras of Power as Learned Prayers (check that box). The reason being that since you can only have one Learned Prayer active at a time, the effects should be worth it, so it's better to give one huge buff instead of a lot of minor ones.

I tell a lie, I think we actually had it work once. We never EVER have just a plain old failure though, and these have been your typical "every spell at 15+" wizards too.

That was one of the things I kind of dislike about the regular spell system. Still, I know how that is - my gaming group doesn't have 'normal' critical failures. It's always blowing up a planet, summoning a demon (or that one time with a langolier...), etc.
