Drain Strength to mana is 25 to one?
What is the conversion rate for a goblin sorceress sucking ST from her beefcake pals who are fun to be with into her staff mana?
A: She first puts five of her six strength into the staff to get one point of mana then she casts Drain Strength five times on five barbarians for five of their ST each to get her own groove back. The final ratio is 25 to one. B: She casts Drain Strength to absorb five strength from one barbarian to add back one point of mana directly. The final ratio is five to one.

Isn't this an extension of the 2nd law of thermodynamics (manadynamics)?

Taking two hops through a channel with 80% loss costs a lot more power than taking one hop through a channel with 80% loss.
If you want to change the numbers even more, just replace the barbarians with another ring of wizards. You can put in as many hops as you want to make the ratio worse and worse by a factor of five for every hop. |

25:1 unless she knows a separate spell for direct transfer.

It is 25 to 1, but they can all rest at the same time... in the long-run, she can use ST 6 hobgoblins - there isn't much benefit unless the GM pro-rates fatigue recovery to match ST (which I do do, at least for ST 20+ creatures...).
