You can do it the fast-and-natural way, or the slow-and-artificial-but-with-the-bonus (e.g. Empathy gives +3 to Body Language). You can walk, or you can pilot a plane; you can't pilot a plane with your natural walking aptitude. |

Look, statements without content tells aren't a platonic ideal of a lie or obviously evasive or extremely rare. They're normal sentences that people say all the time. It's important to distinguish between statements that if written down people can say "Hah! He's using distancing, he's lying" and those where they can't. Quote:

You can't be a natural body language guy with Empathy though, because it doesn't require you to see anything. |

some of how that comes off in how the disinterested party set things up, reacts and how they deliver things. A character's actions can play a vital role in that distinction callous means the character always comes off badly.

It works through other channels in ways that aren't easy/possible to rationally analyse/learn. That's why it's an Advantage. |

Avoiding content tells in lying isn't a strategy. If all you care about is effective lying a content tell is a flaw in your attempts not part of a tradeoff. Quote:

I disagree about realism. Even if you don't like the exact same cap. having the cap progress with Attributes and Talents is ridiculously exaggerating the difference. The best that is achievable between someone with average Attributes and no Talents and someone with high Attributes is not going to be half a dozen skill levels. Nothing about it is broken. Within the realm of skills Attributes are a cost saving trait. Whatever the cap, costs are saved. Quote:
Why shouldn't you be able to be a natural at body language? |

No, but you can broadcast your attitude, and different attitudes cause different reactions. A 'sorry, I am not doing it out of a personal grudge' attitude will cause less of a penalty than a 'whatever, it is not like I consider you a person anyway' attitude. Quote:

Being natural at lowercase body language would probably be represented by Empathy with Vision-Based -20%. Being natural with all possible cue-channels seems to be what unmodified Empathy is about. Being natural with three possible cue-channels but suffering greatly for lacking even one of them is Hypersensory. |

Avoiding content tells does not tell someone that they cannot know if the statement is true because it's a normal sentence, like people use all the time. It doesn't trigger a sense that this person is refusing to give any clues that might show that they are lying it just involves the absence of those clues. Quote:

Sorry. Context explained in the end of previous paragraph. ---- Oh, and it seems we've finally got a Kromm to answer in the Savoir-Faire thread, potentially resolving at least some of the ambiguities. |
