Modular Spacecraft [Spaceships]

One of the possible options for spaceships in GURPS is the idea of a modular spacecraft. While the individual components have double the cost of normal components (except cargo holds) modular spacecraft would have the utility of allowing experimental designs without massive development costs. It would also allow for the quick customization of spacecraft for individual missions, which would allow for quick customization of warships. While less useful for spacecraft, it offers the opportunity to temporarily rent components.


So, have you used modular spacecraft? If so, was it a good experience? What complication ended up arising from using them?
