Good points, all. It seems that some form of simple trap system would fit somewhat well in to the game, but require dummy counters. Anything more elaborate would be more easily represented by weaker conventional units. I still think it might be interesting to do a small really weak group vs. a highly crippled Ogre or tiny group of other forces, perhaps as part of a scenario where the tiny group or Ogre has to get from point a to point b without getting killed by mines and fairly slow forces with some form of modification... a truck with a nuke?

Maybe my own experience with COIN is coloring this, though.
And don't forget the to roll every few turns to see where insurgent player decides to randomly drop mortar rounds rounds and rockets, or that the convoy running criticial supplies (the latest video games and DVDs for the PX, or ice cream for the DFAC), hits a mine counter every other hex it rides through, even though the route clearance team just swept the road that morning. ;)

@DSummer: And if you're going to do that, then we should also expect the MI to round up civilians for interrogation and get into firefights in the local rug merchant's shop. Hmm, wonder if we can get Steve to make a Rug Merchant building -- "Shalom's Oriental Rugs." Bet the art work would be AMAAAAAZING!

Oh, and we'll need local police forces. I want Militia units with little badges on them....

Yeah that's kind of my point. The insurgent forces are going to be concealed in the general population, so they don't actually go on the map (you aren't going to be able to put enough counters for all the normal road traffic and civilian activity and even if you did it would be noise). Instead the insurgent player would have to write "VBID hex 1405", "Fake police roadblock hex 1860", "IED hex 1307" and so on. The patrolling player drives around the map maybe hitting these or not. Boring.

Tell me about it. I once did an escort patrol for a mobile PX. That mission was a nightmare.

1/2 my first tour, and my entire second tour were spent pulling convoy security. We ran everything from fuel, to SUVs, to double wide trailers.

They'll be the ones hijacking trucks, and planting IEDs along the MSR, as you only get hit when you're close to a local police checkpoint. Just make sure you're stocked up on Rip its to pass out to them ;) .

but back to the original subject. I could really see this playing out better as a scenario for Battlesuit, and if I get motivated, I may just whip up something.

Now there's a stretch goal -- free Rip its for every $100 pledge or more!

Honestly, the partisan idea sounds like more fun as a Battlesuit or stripped-down GURPS scenario, at least to me.

This gives me an idea that perhaps would be better sent over to Kromm and SJ themselves.

Yeah, Battlesuit is closer to the right scale for this.
