Umm, Disguise and TL? Anyone notice an appreciable difference?
Greetings, all!
Checked out the Disguise rules, and was surprised. Disguise Kit, TL1: $200, 10lbs; no bonus. Basic Disguise Kit, TL5: $200, 10lbs; no bonus. Disguise Kit, TL5 (Basic Set): $200, 10lbs; +1 bonus. Advanced Disguise Kit, TL7: $4,000; 250lbs; +2 bonus. Suitcase Disguise Kit, TL9: $200, 10lbs; +1 bonus. Disguise Fabricator, TL9: $800, 50lbs; +2 bonus. Sure, the TL9 version is faster, and lighter, but what about the actual progress at its primary function - disguising people? A change of +1 from TL5 to TL9 is ridiculous given the amount of useful materials and makeup humanity came up with. The disguise fabricator is almost insulting - given all the stuff that can be done by modern make-up tools (TL8), they're claiming that the best people can get over a basic kit built at TL1 is a mere +2? Should this stuff be houseruled for purposes of realism? Thanks in advance! Last edited by vicky_molokh; 01-11-2013 at 03:28 AM. |

My guess would be that it should improve almost as fast as medical tools.
Then again Lon Chaney Jr. did amazing things with scraps and high pain threshold that would put a modern FX guy to shame. |

TL9 is more like guesswork, but is TL8's +2 really all we get for the new toys that the motion picture SFX and make-up artists use compared to TL5? Basically, a TL5 make-up artist can spend 2 hours instead of the normal 30 minutes, and gain +2 to skill. Which is exactly as good as the Advanced Disguise Kit (+2 to skill, default use time 2-6 hours, plus a day to prepare the disguise).

One question is how well does the movie makeup work face to face. In the movies you get to limit the angle people see it from and edit out the times that they turned their head and the edge popped loose.
