532. I may not assume that my players will not kill the bad guy even when it should be obvious that killing him will create a bigger problem.

Rule 1 of GMing: Players are not rational.

(Context: Our heros rush back to the crappy small town they grew up in trying to save an NPC from a vengeful Efreet. They arrive late on the night of the annual town festival and cheese roll to find the town in tatters, the NPC missing, and the Efreet holed up with hostages in the abandoned wizards' tower having been driven off by ... a cheese golem, apparently the forgotten legendary town guardian or something.)

533. Not allowed to mock the cheese golem, they go berserk easily.
533a. Not allowed to ask the baker for crackers, for when the golem falls.
553b. Not allowed to ask the semi-sentient golem whether it is feeling Blue.
533b. Not allowed to say "Behold the Power of Cheese!" when our new golem ally helpfully finds and starts to battle the Efreet's summoned elementals.
533c. Nor to yell "Cheese to the Rescue!" when it downs an elemental.
533d. Not allowed to comment on the golem's legenDAIRY success.
533e. I do not hanker for a hunky cheese.

534) Not allowed to buy "Doesn't sleep" and pay it back with interest by using that extra time to take part in training sessions.

Sounds like a perfectly valid use of it, assuming of course you're not wearing yourself out by burning FP during these training sessions. Even without sleep, you need to rest to recharge the batteries. :)

RAW? It's legit.

But extra CP over time and immunities *and* massive improvement to overland travel due to me being the sentry just for 20 CP? That's a very munchkin thing to do. I suppose if I had to take a template with some disadvantage I could never get rid off it could be fair, but as is? It's a bit of a very very munchkiny thing to do.

Not really; it's part of the reason the advantage is worth 20 points. GURPS takes downtime seriously, which is why traits which modify your sleep are more than mere perks and quirks.

In other words, if your GM is okay with you taking Doesn't Sleep, it's assumed that the GM is okay with you getting the benefits of Doesn't Sleep -- otherwise, why allow it?

Doesn't Sleep rarely makes sense to me on an individual basis. Seems like more the sort of thing that might show up on a species template (which puts it even more under GM control). But not just popping up at random on the character sheet of any Joe Munchkin planning for the long term, like the 3e Eidetic Memory.

You can, of course, invent a backstory for any trait if you try hard enough, especially if you get to invoke supernatural events. But "the free study time is bound to pay off" is not a backstory.
