Default Costs Fatigue 4 vs Corrupting

B111 if I pay 4 FP to activate an ability...

or H22 I pay 20% base CP cost of ability in corruption... (1 at 1-9, 2 at 10-14, 3 at 15-19, 4 at 20-24, 5 at 25-29, etc)

This has the same value as a limitation.

If using H147 the "Corrupt magus" could just use Lend Energy to restore FP by taking on equal corruption...

So for abilities with a base cost of 20 or higher, it seems like Costs FP is more efficient, since then you could still pay with corruption with an extra step.

Corrupting probably undervalued for what it does. For example, a character with Insubstantiality (Corrupting, -20%) suffers 16 points of corruption per minute, which means that they would have to avoid using the ability for over two months to recover from four minutes of use. Conversely, Insubstantiality (Costs FP 4/minute, -20%) costs 4 FP for the first minute and 2 FP for each subsequent minute, meaning that a FP 11+ character can recover from four minutes of use in less than two hours.

Corrupt Magics on page 147 is a sample corruption system.

The 'Power Corrupts' thing on pages 146-147 talks about designing the corruption system for your campaign, as GM.

Using the Corrupting limitation is an alternative: it says "A simpler method is to use the Corrupting limitation (p. 22)." You're not really expected to use both at once, so this trade-off doesn't really come up.

That said, have Corrupting cost the same as Costs Fatigue, and just apply corruption instead of fatigue, should be balanced if that's the way you want to go. A corruption point is really just 1/25th of a character point, and converting 1 character point to 25 energy is sort of the standard conversion ratio already. Or if you have a corrupt magus with corrupt magical powers, just use Costs Fatigue and Magical limitations, and then let him use corruption to power it. It's fine.

One magical point is one day of enchanting under slow and sure rules, not 1 FP, so every corruption point represents a lost day. A character that uses 30 corruption points in a single combat is effectively incapacitated for a month.

While that's probably where the original conversion came from, it's used in several places, the corruption rules being one of them. Notably, for comparison, Impulse Buys outright has a 'buy a non-regenerating 25 FP reserve for 1 character point' option.

Basically, when converting temporary FP costs to permanent costs, 25 FP = 1 character point appears to be the accepted standard.

The sliding value is really what throws me off... like what if Costs Fatigue instead did something like "costs as many FP as you save in character points by taking the limitation" too?
