The minis are stated to be 1/300 in current material. We did say 1/285 on first release. It's sort of an Angels On Pinheads thing, since the units being modeled do not actually exist. But go with 1/300.

Historically, 1/285 has been the scale of the miniatures. However, the new models look a little larger to me. I haven't compared with my old models so this could just be an optical illusion.

In miniature wargaming circles, 6mm, 1/300 and 1/285 are more or less considered the same scales. However, there's a noticeable size difference between 1/285 and 1/300 main battle tanks. It's less noticeable with smaller vehicles. So an easy way to compare the Heavy Tank to the Abrams would be to compare the heavy tank model to a GHQ Abrams.

Moderator question - is it allowed to post photos of miniatures here? If not, is there some other place where it is acceptable?

I suspect that the weapons in Ogre all have kill radii larger than 1.8 meters.

As I recall, many moons ago from talking to the guy at GHQ (we used to chat at times at train conventions, since one of our employees* had interned at his shop), he stated he went with 1:285 as a scale since no one else had used it before, and it marked his models as being just slightly different.

1:285 doesn't directly convert to 6mm generic scale, or 1mm per foot, or what have you, it is a round number though.

And this year is GHQ's 50th anniversary ...

* Said employee was never allowed to see the mastering or mold making processes, that was done elsewhere. I always figured the master pattern process involved magic, based on the incredible level of detail GHQ can put on their castings.

Hah, had you going there for a minute, didn't I?

Don't worry. Of course they are real. This game stuff is a cover-up.

As long as two boxcars is a pretty good real world measure. Most of us see boxcars more often than we do Abrams tanks. Yes, I know standard boxcars aren't 40-feet anymore.

I hope I win the lottery someday.

I currently live on the farm that my father and my grandfather owned. It is not a functioning farm (I'm not a farmer, we rent out the land), but we do have a barn and a few sheds. The barn is 30 - 35 feet tall.

If I win the lottery, I'd be able to build a full-sized Ogre Mark V out behind (and looming over) the barn. Hee hee! It would be hollow and would contain my man-cave. I'd just have to be sure that the tower would be extremely well grounded as it would act as a great lightning rod (being the tallest thing around).

(I'd have to be sure to invite Evil Stevie up to autograph it somewhere . . .)

Hmmm. Maybe with built in loudspeakers for sound effects . . .

You can post images, but if they are not your own photos, you should A) get permission from the owner, and even more importantly, B) give proper credit.
