Thoughts about alternative magic systems
I was wondering if people were willing to share any alternative magical systems that they have created. My own system is a ritual magic system that uses the Energy Accumulation rules from Path/Book Magic to give its practitioners Powers. Each ritual magic tradition includes five Paths and each Path represents one 5 CP/level Power from Powers, with each ability being a ritual (there are an infinite number of potential rituals).
The energy cost of the rituals is equal to the CP cost of the ability plus the relevant ritual parameters (elements modify energy cost rather than energy accumulation rolls). The practitioner requires +1 energy for every ritual that they are currently maintaining, whether targeting them or another person. What about your example? |

Re: Thoughts about alternative magic systems
I have a pretty extensive rewrite of standard ritual magic called College Ritual Book Magic.
The basic idea is to treat any individual spell as an Easy skill, colleges are Very Hard, there is no core skill that limits skill, and grimoires provide skill bonuses for specific spells. I've also rewritten the default penalty for many spells: instead of being equal to the prerequisite count, I went through the spell lists and assigned default penalties of 0 to -12 depending on the assumed difficulty of the spell.
