Reloading Quickly
What's the fastest reload time on a weapon with a detachable magazine?
Can it ever be instant? Tactical Shooting p.20 seems to suggest so if you are Familiar with the weapon, Fast-Draw Ammo successfully and have Quick Reload perk. Then the reload is "[sped] up even further, to a free action!"[TS p.20] What I don't follow is the maths - Four ready manoeuvers down to a free action with three factors. Sorry, I have searched for past threads on this and can only find one from 2007 or so (pre-Tactical Shooting). Apologies if I am missing something obvious. |

Re: Reloading Quickly
isn't 3 steps/Ready's: remove empty, retrieve fresh, insert fresh?
So Quick Reload - detachable box mag, is letting you treat 1&3 as one action and Fast Draw takes care of 2. A free action isn't really instantaneous and in this case requires a Perk, a skill and a successful skill check. Personally, I too would be more comfortable with it being reduced to a single Ready but I haven't seen the kind of pistol events they'll be basing this off.

Re: Reloading Quickly
A YouTube search for fastest reload will reveal dozens of videos of shooters that can cycle a magazine so quickly that it requires a trained eye to even make out what they did and does not interrupt their firing process. The magazine change takes so little time that it is below the gurps granularity to track (ie less then a half second often more like a tenth of a second) and this is best represented as a free action.
