Kirk shouldn't have Jump Kick. His signature kick is more correctly known as a Drop Kick - you hit an opponent with both legs to try and knock them down, falling in the process. It's very, very different from what BASIC SET (and martial artists) call a Jump Kick.

Drop Kick will be in GURPS Martial Arts, of course - along with two-handed punches...Wrestling and Brawling are sufficient for Drop Kick. He doesn't seem that great at slams, really, not enough to justify actual training (Sumo Wrestling), nor are his throws more than Wrestling takedowns.

He seems to win his fights more by a combination of luck and gumption than actual skill. He might qualify for the second level of Luck, too. Or maybe just lots of Hard to Subdue or saved-up XP spent on better results. It's not like he keeps getting better...

Flyn,
Lets not do that argument again - okay ??

Other than that how is my adjusted version??

Yeah I gave him Enemies /Klingons

How about some optionals?

Secret (toupee) and OPH (speaks like... he has to take... a breath every... few seconds)?

:)

Okay now you're just making fun of the actor that played the character.

I got a friend who grew up in Europe - but she cught up with STAR TREK fandom while living here. I loaned her several of the paperbacks .
At one point she thought the show was based on the books and she actually asked me "WHy is it that Kirk seems smarter in the books than he does on the TV Show?" I then had to explain to her that the books were written after the show was off the air . Don't worry - she has caught up with American pop culture by now.

Fine if no one else will defend Shatner as an actor, then I guess it is up to me...;) Bill Shatner is a classically trained Shakepearean actor, though only problem is that the emphasis and movements that served him well on stage over power tv. In the "Enterprise Incident" when Shatner plays a catotonic and despressed/suicidal Kirk, he really pulls it off. The Vulcan death grip not so much but the part of a depressed Kirk was good.

What about Allies for an advantage? His close friends seem willing to go to extreme lengths for him.

Actually Roger, I was sort of defending Shatner.

He's not my favorite actor - but I do think people pick on him too much .

But hey sme mannerisms of the actor portraying the Character should work their way into the writeup.

Hey, it's not like I mentioned his girdle! :)

And if Shatner can make fun of himself, why can't I? Didn't he do a SNL skit where he told a bunch of convention-goers to "get a life"?

The REAL joke of that sketch is when he does the 180 and starts being nice to the fans - because the promoter explains that he is getting PAID for the appearance....and he doesn't need the bad press.
Kind of paralells what happened with Shatner 8 to 12 years after that aired.

But hey ..to get back on topic .. now about Kirk as a GURPS character....

Name: James T. KIRK
Race: Human

Attributes [140]
ST 11 [10]
DX 13 [60] (Kirk shows a wide competence in combat skills)
IQ 13 [60] (Kirk has good social skills, is strong willed and has a broad base of knowledge)
HT 11 [10]
I like this version so far. I suppose people would argue Kirk isn't this smart, but hey, all those levels of luck could just be Kirk being smart enough to make the right decisions. Remember what Gary Mitchell said about his reputation at the academy... he described Kirk as a stack of books with legs and said "in his class, you either think or sink."

I would make a case for upping either his ST or HT or both by a point. My reasoning, at the ripe old age of 34(?) he was able to best Finnegan who was in his late teens or early 20s. Though I suppose one could argue Finnegan was programmed to loose, Kirk does excerise regularly and live an active lifestyle.
