If you're running the data through Excel, I have my GCA Equipment Spreadsheet which pumps out properly formatted GDF data. In fact, this is what I've used to convert the last 4 or 5 weapon heavy supplements to GDF.

Only briefly, to make sure everything's in nice columns to be machine friendly. It's going straight to perl after that, which is parsing out the different weapon modes and dereferencing notes to long text and stuff like that.

I suspect the internet runs on bored computer programmers.

Judegement call time

- what determines if a weapon qualifies for the "Sword" quality modifiers, instead of other modifiers?

- if a not-sword with both cutting and either crushing or impaling damage modes, which set of quality modifiers does it use?

For the first question, I am currently basing it on whether it appears under a "sword-skill" and whether it does either Cutting or Impaling damage with at least one of its modes of use, which eliminates batons and similar items, but may be too permissive (Macuahuilzoctli are exceptional so I'm not worried about that, but do Deer Antlers count as a sword-type weapon for quality purposes? Does a Sai?)

When the primary skill is a "sword" skill and the primary damage is cutting or impaling. At least, that's how I drew the line; I'm not sure what the "official" stance is. In real world terms, if the weapon is single piece from handle to tip and the main body of the weapon requires significant smithing.. A Sai would qualify, IMO, while a Pick would not.

Note that many fencing weapons, as well as daggers have only Imp damage.

Many of the weapons in Low-Tech either appear in Martial Arts or have similar weapons in MA; both Sai and Antlers are in MA. I believe I defined both as Sword class there.

Minor irritation - as I was bundling up the beta of the melee weapons for public testing, I noticed my text extraction is missing all the † and ‡ characters. I have no idea why.

I'm now having to go add them all in manually :P

OK, GDF is up at http://www.motoslave.net/gcarepo/view.php?pkgid=85

Be on the lookout for misplaced † and ‡ characters, I've spanged them in by hand which introduces human error issues.

Again, this is ONLY melee weapons, and does not include the thrown attack modes on weapons that have them.

All weapons with notes have the full notes text in the Description, even if only part of the Note applies to that weapon. Individual weapon modes have just the note # as usual.

Since you were going though multiple stages here, do you know at what stage of the process they disappeared at?

Yep, at text extraction. XPDF apparently ate them all when writing the text to file.

That's step 1) "Get text out of PDF and into a real format"
