[DF] Wildcard "Class" skills
Has anyone tried using the Wildcard skills instead of Templates? How effective are multi-careered characters with two to four WC skills? And pricewise, where do WC based DF adventurers come in relative to the cost of 'Standard' DF PCs?

Re: [DF] Wildcard "Class" skills
They come in at the same price - you're giving up talents and such to buy the Wildcard skills.
Two of the players in my group use Wildcard skills - the Barbarian and the Wizard. In both cases, they're trading depth for breadth. Their primary and secondary skills covered by the Wildcard have lower levels than they would otherwise, but they have more of the background skills than they would otherwise. Neither of them have tried to multiple careers, but I wouldn't want a Knight!/Thief! to disarm a trap. Wildcard skills need a lot of points before they start to pay off, and having every Rogue skill at 10 just isn't useful. Not that Traps-11 is really all that great, so I'd probably avoid a Knight/Thief as a primary trap remover, too. |
