The Infinite Scholar

The Infinite Scholar is a superhuman who sacrifice her memories of the past to the Titan Mnemosyne in order to gain access to perfect knowledge. Her first memory of her new life was the Titan Mnemosyne explaining her terms of service to her.

In exchange for her sacrifice, The Infinite Scholar received the following ability: Modular Abilities (Divine Inspiration; 36, 36; Backlash, Ecstasy, Resisted by HT, -50%; Divine, -10%; Preparation Required, One minute, -20%) [60]. As long as she take a few minutes to prepare, she is capable of acquiring any mental ability of skills that the Titan Mnemosyne agrees that she should gain access to.

Woah. Definitely give her an apartment in my Super Hero HQ. It would certainly save time looking for the One Expert that can Save The Day before the Bad Guys kidnap them (Plot Element #223).

Even if it is technically more point-efficient, having only two slots with a large amount of points seems like it might not be as effective as having a higher number of smaller slots. What's her IQ? Because 36 points in a skill gives you between attribute+7 and attribute+10.

Probably IQ 14, giving her between a 21 and a 24 in a skills, but she can duplicate any mental ability or skill, so she has a lot of versatility (just not a lot of power). For example, she could mimic Mind Probe (Invasive, +75%) [35] and Interrogation at IQ+9 [36], allowing her to rip information from her target pretty easily.

Whenever Bees! opens her mouth, swarms of bees fly out, as if from sort of high pressure bee-firehose. (I hex worth of bee swarm per second). Luckily, she is completely immune to bees, and can influence swarms of bees with regular influence rolls using the dance (bees) skill, which she has developed to a very high level and "speaks" at a fluent level. Unfortunately, any other attempted form of communication seems to over-pressure her bees, preventing her from signing, writing, picking symbols, etc. as she gets distracted with uncontrolled bee vomiting.

Bees! seems to be on some sort of extended quest to stop or avenge colony collapse disorder, but unfortunately no one she works with speaks dance (bees) at anything above the broken level.

So, I think that is a more complex character than at first glance. At first glance, it would make sense to use Jet (+0%), but the bees probably survive longer than a second, so that would not be correct.

I believe that the best representation of her attack would be the following: Toxic Attack 1d (Area Effect, 2 yards, +50%; Contact Agent, +150%; Erosive, +10%; Extended Duration, Permanent, Until bees are killed, +150%; Homing, +50%; Mobile, 10 yards/turn, +400%; Overhead, +30%; Persistent, +40%; Selective Area, +20%) [40]. The opening of the mouth causing an attack is an oddity though, and I am not sure how to model that effect.

How does she eat or drink ? That might be a problem in the long run, even more than the fact that she can't speak, or even yawn w/o serious issues.

Other than that, it's similar to a limitation that requires you to speak, even less than that, since she only needs to open her mouth, not speak and can probably still spawn her bees while being choked.

There must be a build somewhere for Cyclops which I guess has similar issues (blind/blowing stuff up)

Which actually makes me think she could wear some kind of mask to keep her ability under control...

My build:

Quote:
Optic Blast 8d (Crushing Attack; Accurate +4, +20%; Always On, Effects are Dangerous (Mitigator: Ruby Quartz Glasses or Visor, -60%), -16%; Cone, 3 yards, +80%; Damage Modifier: Double Knockback, +20%; Increased Range, x10, +30%; Jet, +0%; Ricochet, +10%; Selectivity (applies to Cone and Jet), +10%; Underwater, +20%; Variable, +5%; Mutant, -10%) [108]
The part important to this conversation highlighted. Basically, I limited the limitation, similar to the Limited Enhancements optional rule in the Basic Set. (I'd have to check Power-Ups 8: Limitations to see if it made it into RAW.)

(This requires a rewrite to replace Increased Range x10 with Line-of-Sight.)

I think that she would starve or die of dehydration. A more viable variation may have her instead possessing Disturbing Voice and giving her a Dependency on honey. An interesting question would be what occurs to the bees after they attack their target.

If I was going to build it I would use a summon-able ally group based on a 1 hex swarm of insects.

As a super, she probably has doesn't eat or drink as an advantage. In setting, I assume she gets nutrition from the bees ... not by eating them, necessarily ... maybe they leave honey behind them when they leave?

That's a fun image for a super fight, actully - after she's summoned a LOT of bees to deal with some baddy, her face and front torso are covered in residual honey.

The inspiration is indeed an unholy combination of Cyclops, Oprah, and the dog who barks bees. I am rather pleased with the image though.

I assume they slowly disperse. For indoor battles this may take a while.

Note that as a PC not being able to communicate is a big hassle, so go with "ASL is allowed" if you want to play Bees!.
