That was an enlightening update.

It was very interesting to compare the number of backers for each project all in one place.

I sometimes believe that GURPS and Dungeon Fantasy get a bit marginalized, but in terms of number of backers for its representative project here, it didn't fare far off from "more popular" items.

I've thought about this too, for many reasons. Some considerable delays in my own projects due to the built-in "oh, and we'll keep your money for 2.5 weeks" in Kickstarter, for example.

If you have a built-in audience, running your own crowdfunding platform may well be an option. Might require coding-savvy to get it done. I'm still looking.

Honestly, if SJG established their own platform for crowdfunding, no matter how simple, I'd ditch Kickstarter in a heartbeat. Just imagine the things SJG could do with that 10% cut KS automatically takes off the top.

The down side is the number of eyeballs Kickstarter attracts is pretty impressive if properly leveraged.
