Default [Basic] [Magic] Using DFRPG spell descriptions to clarify GURPS ones

The Infinite Cabal party want to do spectroscopic analysis of auras, because some of theirs are changing in interesting ways, and they'd like to measure this objectively:

It isn't clear if that aura is generally visible, or only to the caster. By contrast:

That version is quite clear, and makes a Visible Aura spell necessary.

I'm happy with that decision, but I'd like to ask if DFRPG Spells is intended to be usable in general to clarify spells that it covers?

It is up to the GM but in general I would consider DFRPG spells to be updated versions of those in Magic (which is still mostly from previous editions).

No. In some cases DFRPG just straight changes spells.

And as I prefer the new spells... I'm using them over the older version even if I'm not running DFRPG.

Nothing wrong with that, but it's not a clarification.

If y'all want Line Editor level clarification, y'all should put out the Krommsignal.

I think that, in the case of this particular spell, the interpretation of the Magic and DFRPG versions is meant to be the same. The spell does not appear to make an Aura visible to everyone looking, but only to the caster. Actually, the DFRPG version seems more clear about that - "Lets you see...", but we were playing that way since 3E. Frex, my Second Edition of Magic says "Shows the caster a glowing halo...".
