Curse you forum and my new found errors! or Asking For Help
~~~2008~~~
Asking For Help You may ask any other player to help you. If he refuses, you may ask another player, and so on, until they all turn you down or someone helps. Only one player can help you. ~~~2012~~~ Asking For Help If you cannot win a combat on your own, you may ask any other player to help you. If he refuses, you may ask another player, and so on, until they all turn you down or someone helps. Only one player can help you, adding his combat strength to yours. Anyone can play cards to affect your combat, however. Tell me, are there any other players who've been playing since the early 00's who didn't realize that you can't help someone who doesn't need it, or am I the only one?
Re: Curse you forum and my new found errors! or Asking For Help
I've never ever thought that you could help a player who was winning a combat, even if the letter of the rules pre-2012 didn't explicitly disallow it. Just never something me or other players thought of. Honestly I'm glad it says that now.
Oh we did, and several other groups we've played with did. It was a popular way of bullying your way into extra loot. The phrase "can I help you?" while you were already winning frequently meant "let me help you or I will do something horrid"... The earlier rules have a line above which says something like "if you can't win you have two options..." and then the next section was about asking for help. My mistake, oh well
This is not a change in the rules at all. If you read the previous paragraph you will find:
Right, I mentioned that... Because the original text didn't state that you couldn't ask for help even when you didn't need it, and since it had it's own heading, almost everyone I've played with thought it was an option.
But I agree, there were some confusion, so they made it redundant on the new version of the rules, to make it clear.
