You can see sparks come off in some parts of that one!

Dangerous guys! In the first video they are fighting with a theme of The Witcher computer game!

That was kind of scary, espeically given how little armour they were wearing. On the plus side German longsword makes a lot more sense to me now.

Just to mix things up here's some Chinese spear work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnpG8WIxJrs
Also there's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNQ_G5g7dIs and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt7fFAVn0Ps

I'm curious - how did it help make more sense?

And yeah, they're frightening - it seems almost superhumanly fast! Though in reality those are just drills they've practiced a lot that they can essentially choreograph for the camera - there's no uncertainty. This is why iai kata seems so fast and sure as well.

Seeing it done at speed gave a greater sense of how it would work in a fight. I suspect that many of the people I've seen doing German longsword are doing it wrong now but I've never got much of a sense of how winding is done in a full speed fight.

And to me they felt fairly slow, sloppy, and jerky*. They are using one of the odder interpretations I've encountered. The big issue for me is that they're playing tippy tag. They're moderately quick, but they have no intent. In other words, they don't have much in the way of follow through.

As for the armor, they're using feather swords. About on par with floppy schlager or musketeer rapier blades intended for fencing. The danger is at most light bruising.

*Sloppy and Jerky in this case just means hesitations while waiting for the partners to get to where they're supposed to be during the set plays.
