Default Smaller Munchkin Dice?

I recently ordered the reprints of Munchkin Fu and Munchkin Impossible. I was just curious why these two reprints have smaller dice then the previous Munchkin sets?

They changed the die size as a cost-cutting measure so they could keep the same price point (or at least that's my understanding). All Munchkin core sets going forward will have the smaller dice (not sure what the exact date of the change was, though).

A 16mm six-sided die has a volume of 4,096 cu mm. A 14mm six-sided die has a volume of 2,744 cu mm. That's a 33% saving in material cost for the die. For each set, that's literally pennies saved, but they're pennies that add up over a print run.

We're using every trick we have to hold the per-unit cost down to avoid having to raise the price on Munchkin core games and without changing the card stock itself from what we've been using for the last several years. We're very pleased that core games have stayed the same price* for the last 13 years, and we want to continue holding that line as long as we can.

* With one minor exception: we experimented with going to 24.99 instead of 24.95 for a brief period. We heard objections, so we moved it back.

Just out of curiosity, does this apply to Munchkin Adventure Time, too? I know you guys aren't the ones making it, but figured you might know, anyway.

Not that it makes a difference to me. I doubt I'd even notice the difference if I didn't have the dice side by side.

No, it went to print before we changed the size. USAopoly is free to use whatever size die they want, anyway. (The die for AT is adorkable, incidentally.)

Thank you for your response, I was just curious and my curiousity is now satisfied!

It's really great that SJG did this rather than up the price or change the quality of the cards.

I have a question related to this - I too just got the re-prints...

And I too marvelled at the smaller dice...

Then I got to wondering.

Do you have any of the white with red spots, and blue/grey with red spots from Fu and Impossible in stock with the loose 16mm dice? You select them at random, but is there any amount of hug-based bribery that can encourage some kind soul at the Warehouse to pick those particular colours?

Perhaps everyone could have the best of both worlds? Smaller dice in the core sets, but the option to buy one of the same colour in 16mm loose from W23? Like an option similar to the jumbo dice were you can select specific colours...

No, because the loose Munchkin dice came from other batches that didn't include the Fu and Impossible dice.
