Session Recap: The Awakening - The Night-Dimmed Day, Part II, Game Session 6

Quick session recap. The PCs find two more of the crystal skull shards, discover a secret from Jonathan's past, and (sadly) lose one of their number to a beast that seems unstoppable. The Dead Men mourn, but move on. They have to. The future of the planet is quite literally in their hands...

These aren't your typical ghouls! These are straight out of Lovecraft (that's like straight out of Compton, but with less gangs and more Cthulhu eating you). With stats for generic campaigns, Dungeon Fantasy, and Monster Hunters, these carnivorous necromorphs should add a touch of horror to any campaign. Mmm, what's for dinner? Leftovers a la corpse.
Perfect! I was just about to stat out Lovecraftian ghouls for my Monster Hunters campaign - this adventure takes place mostly in the sewers of a large city, and ghouls immediately came to mind as an interesting red herring/side plot!

:-) I'm trying to decide what to do next. I'm thinking I might right up the manifestation of a old one.

Triple Threat: Fluttermouth

It's a butterfly. It's so pretty. It's sooooo colorful...and then it opens its mouth and tries to eat you. You kill it. It explodes. And days later your skin starts to move on its on. There is something in you. Something eating you from the inside out. With stats for generic campaigns, Dungeon Fantasy, and Monster Hunters, these psychedelic flying mushrooms are going to make your players cringe and hope to God they never encounter them a second time. I call it the flutterby effect.

Triple Threat: Animated Scarecrow

One more day to Halloween, Halloween! One more day till Halloween, Silver Shamrock!

Among the multitude of spooky things that exist, the scarecrow inhabited by a evil spirit or animated by dark magic is easily in the top ten. Composed of hay, sticks, sackcloth, old clothing. They are made to look like a human, scarecrows are parodies of us - however darkly reflected. In Dungeon Fantasy they could be the creations of dark druids. In Monster Hunters they could be the creation of a rogue witch or animated by a dark god.

With their 14 HT and decent amounts of HP, even if people can correctly identify their weakness to fire these things may take an insane amount of pounding to take down. Especially as there offensive powers may mean it will take more than one to threaten the party

Unless of course you have someone who can convert say rifle or weapon master axe damage to fire, then they will die

Yup. But their weakness is pretty obvious. If you see something that looks like it can burn...it's probably going to burn. That's the whole point. You need fire to beat one. That said, I made a copy paste error with the HT (that's for Monster Hunters) and should be a 12.

I recently switched from Wordpress to Blogger. There were a great many reasons, but mostly, I was tired of it crashing on me while I was getting a draft ready to post. I also didn't really like the interface and I have to admit, Blogger is just way better. I've changed all the above links to point at my new site, but just in case, here it is again.

Just a heads up, I'll probably be posted 3 to 4 session recaps a month, 1 to 2 Triple Threats, and either a Gamemaster's Guidepost or GURPS 101 post. And I'm taking suggestions on topics or answering any questions you guys might have.
