Default Vorpal Blade trivia

I'm reading my Vorpal Blade card. the card gives an extra +10 against anything starting with J, then tells you not to ask why, or what Vorpal means.

so, I looked it up.

It is referring to the Lewis Carroll story of the Jabberwocky in the Alice in Wonderland book. It describes a young boy's quest to slay a monster called the Jabberwock: "He took his vorpal sword in hand", and later,

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

So, the starting with J=killing the Jabberwocky. Though, why they just didn't have it as a +10 against the Jabberwock in M2:UA, I'm not sure.

That's right folks, I dared to ask ;)

Don't ask any more questions. You're liable to make things far worse for yourself!!! ;-)

Yeah, I think a good number of people got the Lewis Carroll reference, and when it comes to Lewis Carroll, it's just best not to ask. . . ;-)

On pondering this some more, since the Jabberwock was in a previous set, I was thinking they went with "Starts with J" so it could be used with other monsters in that set. Then I looked, and there are no monsters in M3 that start with J. Then I looked at the base set, thinking that if you only had M1 and M3, you could use it (at +10), but there are no monsters in the base set that start with J. I came up with this list from the regular Munchkin sets: Jabberwock, Judge Fredd (both from M2)

Other sets
Star: Janibot
Fu: Jogira
Bites: Jumping Spider
Super: 0
Imposible: James Bomb
Cthuhlu: Joggoth
TGTBTM: Jackalope, Judge Lynch
Booty: Jellyfish, Jack Tar, Jean La Foot

So, Booty seems the best set to mix this with. ;)

Jerry Lewis and Carrol O'Conner are going to come get you! ;)

Oh - Before you get any ideas, the Munchkin 5 Bookmark's monster is called the Munchkin Monster. If your real name happens to begin with a J, your monster name is treated as beginning with an M. (I asked that a while ago here, as my real name begins with a J.)

I didn't know that untill I read it here- I ignored the card.(I hadn't seen a monster that starts with 'J')
