Re: D8/D4
Well I cannot be the only one who thought we can add a degree of gradiation when it comes to adding a die for difficulty right?
Just exchange a d6 for a d8. Or a d6 for a d4! Of course, now you gotta make the d10/d5... |

Re: D8/D4
Yes, that works too. Could make subtly easier or harder locks that way, or weaker or stronger poison saving throws.
You could also allow additional levels of existing talents that don't modify the power of the ability directly, but rather change the dice which are used. A second level of Silent Movement or Detect Traps might swap the dice from d6 to d4 for challenge rolls, for example. Or add Spell Mastery to certain spells that change their base effect die from d6 to d8. These latter suggestions are more fundamental game changes than just modding basic challenge rolls, and definitely would fall into the house rule category.

Re: D8/D4
Gotta admit, I would not be sad if the d20 did not come out.
d6-d8-d10-d12 Feels special. That feels like TFT dice to me. It gets away from d6 only for the extra flavor. Every die feel solid to me. d4 and d20 don't have a "feel" to them. d4 felt wimpy and d20 feels well, how can I describe it? d6-d12 feels like they give you the number without a doubt. Stamp their foot in the ground and say "Here it is!" D4 and D20 feels "feh" as compared. Also d20 is too much of a "brand" for D&D. Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to rethink my life that I can get so deep talking about dice. |

That's cute that you got them to match each other's colors like that. :)

Re: D8/D4
The trick? Both designs are in the same steel tool. When we shoot the dragon dice in a color, the skull dice come along for the ride! What we did was plan out the production so that we could create two different sets at the same time.
