I suppose so, although the question wouldn't arise often since the Phantom would only become "solid" at point blank range anyway.

Very mystifying. Can a phantom take an object from character's hand and then leave the room with it? If not, what happens if it tries?

Does a phantom have to be anthropomorphic? Can't one just make a phantom that is a bomb and as soon as it is touched it goes off?

No. When the object is taken away it falls to the ground.

Clarify please -- does it fall to the ground when it leaves the character's hand, or when the phantom goes out of sight?

When it leaves the characters hand. The phantom is real to the character, not to the object.

Then I cannot fathom how the feather could be cut (in the earlier example) when the other character arrives later.

The spell is gibberish.

These arguments one of the reasons Phanotm got banned in my games. You already have spells within the same college that let you make creations that CAN open doors etc. A questionable inbetween built mostly to emulate the ridiculous illusion rules from AD&D for GURPS really isn't meeting any legitmate game needs.
