Default Blackmail or threaten?

During a game of Munchkin, I decided I would threaten another player with a monster buff if he didn't give me a treasure. This naturally brought up some debate, but in the end we decided it was legal. Can anyone else confirm this or does anyone use this strategy?

As long as he didn't give you the treasure during the fight, which is against the rules, then you can make whatever threats you want. I would not rule that a player who makes such an agreement under duress is bound by it, but he should consider carefully whether breaking it would lead him to more grief later in the game.

I do use that strategy at times and I personally expect people to abide by the deal even if made under duress (I guess that is a house rule after what Andrew posted). Of course it works the other way as well. I got tricked one time when the personplayed some extra cards and won the game. I couldn't play my stuff because they had agreed to the deal. I would never try this tactic against my wife because she would just say shut up and do it. Then I look silly for bluffing.

My regular munchkin group has named that tactic after me after I had an unbelievably successful game using it. I think the general perception is thats it a legitimate form of cheating
