I was thinking about the vampire mage who can't levitate herself, which seems odd to me. Then I thought of the common-enough restriction that vampires can't cross running water, and it occurred to me that magic is full of weird restrictions. So we're back to the GM's call. I'll let it work on undead in my campaigns. My friend rolled with it as written (living only) on Saturday, but he said he may allow it later (he didn't want to stop play for a theoretical discussion at the time - good call, IMO). So, shrug.

I've always ruled that if it has a Will it counts as 'alive' for such purposes... however I've never had to deal with high tech sapience like AI and the such in my magic campaigns, so that would muddy the waters for me.

Note, I don't treat most things that have both Automaton and Unfazeable as having a Will. I just make them Immune† to (Most) Will Rolls.

† Immune to Body Control, Mind Control, and Knowledge spells. Resist all others using HT.
