Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
My blog Gaming Ballistic is mostly centered around GURPS. But I'm branching out (and have done so in the past), and I'll drop posts that are not GURPS, but potentially interesting, here.
As an example I've written a few about D&D Fifth Edition: Grappling in D&D5 Basic The DnD5 Advantaged/Disadvantaged Mechanic Exploring HP Variations in D&D Games I'd Like to Play Monteport 41 - I play D&D5 for the first time Nosphryc Azurecoat - 5th Level D&D5 Fighter Monteport Session 42 There might be a few more. But anyway, I will drop one note on non-GURPSy stuff here, for those that are interested, in the future.

Inspired by Ken H over at The Rusty Battle Axe, here are games I want to be involved with in 2015, either by playing them, reading and critiquing, or both.

We started out remembering that we had some magic items to divvy out, since last time we forgot to distribute the freakin' Ring of Zombie protection. We end fighting trolls and hoboblins, earning massive loot and several of us leveling up, including me.

Another session of S&W. We went power-tripping through Castle of the Mad Archmage, trying to kick down as many doors and rack up as much loot as possible. We did OK, but we also took more damage this delve than most.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
We play the 44th session of the Monteporte megadungeon, my third D&D session. We start (and end) with a discussion on the attunement rules, which drastically limit the number of magic items you can use at the same time. We then explore most of what we can find on this level, springing an ambush with some hapless Grimlocks.

In Monteporte 44, the session began and ended with animated discussions on the rules for attunement to magical weapons. We all, I think, liked the general concept of attunement, but were all equally bothered by some of the implications.
Here I think about the underlying concept, as well as play with some potential house rules.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
Thursday may be GURPS-Day, but today I brew up a special kind of chow – an unholy combination of GURPS and D&D. I’ve always liked the attack/defend/damage paradigm of GURPS, and a recent post about using damage resistance for D&D armor made me wonder how far I could take adapting the concept of active defenses and damage resistance to D&D5. Turns out you can go pretty far, and I know I didn’t get all the potential out of the idea yet . . .

Another day, another delve - but instead of losing a party member to fierce orcs or deadly fungus or something, one of our party becomes . . . I won't spoil it.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
Scored a copy of Munchkin Treasure Hunt and played it with my five-year-old daughter. Overall: a good game, both in terms of fun that scales with number of players as well as some nice skill-building for the target age (or a bit younger; the game starts at 6+ officially).
The upshot: we had fun and will play again.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
I visit Robert Conley's Majestic Wilderlands for the first time, using D&D5 as the vehicle. Started out with an almost-fatal combat for my new character, and ended with me nearly drowning in worldbuilding detail.
All in all, very much a "sink or swim" first experience, especially relative to the dungeon exploration style campaigns thus far.
