Excuse me for saying so but that seems odd. ODE hasn't been available in years, 6e is the current retail flagship. Are we to spread the word about something that was viewed as the "all the Ogre you'd ever need" now has an expansion? Or is it spread the word to people who might be interested in expanding their play options for what is available now?

Ogre Designer's Edition was never meant, nor marketed, as the complete game forever and ever in one box. Even before the original Kickstarter campaign, there was talk of additional products: scenario books, miniatures, and a follow-up expansion set.

wolf90 has stated in this very first post in this thread that Battlefields will work with both Designer's and Sixth Edition Ogre.

You and I and everyone else who is into the whole of the game in all its parts know that. I'm just thinking of overall messaging not just for existing fans but for those out there who arent as into it, who maybe only have 6e.

With each release Drew has to strike a very delicate balance... only a small fraction of new players will become engrossed enough to spend time on the forums and back successive kickstarters and so on and so forth... but because of things like ODE, there is very little that the super dedicated old hats don't already have. To get enough support to make production viable, he has to provide something for both groups.

In this case, from what he's hinted at, there is so little retreading being done for this one that we should be able to see a good bit of support from both groups. Which is good, I'm expecting a fairly high initial goal because of what those maps are going to cost.

I don't understand the issue here. I'm sure Drew and company will make clear that Battlefields is for both editions of the game in their public announcements.

The G3 and S3 maps in ODE mounted format are the key for this group. I'm personally in for 3 copies of Battlefields - 2 for me to complete my "2 of every map" project, and one for my daughter to go with her 6e + Reinforcements set.

Agreed, plus counters for the missing unit types. And I'm down for two copies as well, to go with my two copies of ODE, O6E, and most of the sponsor sheets. :D
