Default Heavy duty turning keys?

Just played my first Car Wars game in 25 years. Just as fun as I remembered.

But after one game, the paper turning key started peeling. Does anyone offer an heavy duty version anywhere? Thanks!

I'd suggest using one of the ones found here as a template and just have one cut for you out of MDF or acrylic.

If you have a sharp enough razor knife [or several refills for it], you can also cut a key out of foamcore.

I've got a set of single-maneuver mini-keys I cut from the stuff. They're kinda ugly, but the smaller form factor works really well in 3D where obstacles have a nasty habit of getting in the way when using a full-size all-in-one key.

For SPARK I printed our turning keys on full sheet label paper (Avery 8165/5165), stick them to the brown side of paperboard (frozen pizza boxes work well), and cut them out from there. We've used the same ones for many years now.

I've done the same with label paper and sheet styrene.

Over 20 years ago I purchased my metal 1X Scale Turning Keys at a gaming convention in Spokane, WA. The Turning Keys were a one-time production run. They are aluminum with a blue finish and black text. The maker did not make another production run because they were very expensive to produce.

This information does not help you at the moment because these Turning Keys are not available, but it may give you an idea to make your own. Aluminum Turning Keys might be cheaper to make today with current technology.

I just worked up a 3d-printable turning key and put it up on Thingiverse. It defaults to the standard scale, but with 3d printing being what it is, can easily be scaled to whatever it needs to be. It's nowhere near as durable as a metal one, but it'll stand up to more punishment than paper.

I copied the ones in ADQ onto transparencies, then laminated the transparencies, then cut those out. Dozens of hours of play with no loss of condition.

Have you had any problems with Delaminating?

I did the same with Guild Ball AOEs. I had the Staples folks use their heaviest Transparency and heaviest Laminate. I had a couple that delaminated, but most of them have been fine.
