Jared, Kyriotate of Trade

Jared Kyriotate of Trade Corporeal Forces: 3 Strength: 6 Agility: 6 Ethereal Forces: 4 Intelligence: 10 Precision: 6 Celestial Forces: 4 Will: 8 Perception: 8 Skills: Artistry/3 (Official-looking documents), Dodge/3, Emote/1, Fighting/3, Knowledge/2 (Arms Industry), Languages (Arabic/1, Cantonese/1, Russian/1, Spanish/1), Ranged Weapon/3 (Pistol), Savoir-Faire/3 Songs: Charm (Ethereal/3), Healing (All/3), Motion (Celestial/3), Shields (Corporeal/3), Tongues (Corporeal/3) Attunements: Kyriotate of Trade, Elohite of Trade, Head of a PIN, Scabbard Well, you know how it is. You do a favor for a friend, and that leads to another favor, and that leads to yet another favor, and then your friend gives your name to one of his friends (who is more than happy to make sure that helping him is worth your time), word gets around that you're reliable, discreet, and reasonably priced - and all of a sudden you're a player in the international arms-smuggling business. Note that this is not necessarily distressing to Marc. Admittedly, he doesn't like the idea of humans getting killed - few Mercurians do - but he also doesn't like the idea of humans getting to slaughter other human beings merely because one side is better-armed than the other. Until such time as the final outbreak of peace and tranquility among humanity, it must be admitted that being known to be able to fight back can be a powerful protection against having to fight at all. So if there's a way to get angelic oversight over the whole process... well, better Marc than say, Michael (Michael would disagree, but he has other priorities). Jared, of course, is in a position to be a marvelous smuggler. Thanks to his gift from Laurence (a reward for services rendered in keeping a South Asian orphanage from being casually exterminated in 1934), the Kyriotate is able to instantly transport any weapon from point A to point B without need of papers, approvals, or bribes. It is limited only by how many items that it can Scabbard at one time, and the usual restriction on weight: this makes it unsuitable for transporting gunships and artillery pieces, but with a little effort it can personally transship quite a reasonable amount of ordinance. Couple that with its more mundane abilities, and it becomes no surprise that Jared has found itself possessed of a lucrative little career here. The Kyriotate is perhaps not entirely enamored of the current state of affairs, though. Like most of Trade, Jared is not really comfortable with violent solutions to problems; it prefers peaceful conflict resolutions, which are not always available in the field of arms smuggling. Jared is likewise not exactly thrilled with some of the people that it has to meet and work with on a regular basis, and the usual "send in the Malakim" solution for the worst cases sometimes isn't really appropriate. It compensates by being very careful about its clients - both mundane and angelic - but Jared is not inclined to be overly forgiving of individuals who don't take its self-imposed restrictions as seriously as does the Kyriotate. Aside from that fairly important exception, Jared is fairly nice. If you're wondering how Laurence feels about all of this: he's hardly objecting. In fact, he officially sanctions the work as being able to freely draw on Laurentine resources, as long as Jared a). keeps Marc apprised of its actions and b). is available for Bible-smuggling runs from time to time. Yes, you can Scabbard a Bible (not to mention other holy books). The Archangel of the Sword says that a Bible is a weapon, and will cheerfully note all sorts of totalitarian regimes that apparently agree with him - and even more gleefully note how many of those regimes don't actually exist anymore... |

"And here's a likely candidate for a Soldier in that business:"
Amusingly, I do believe that I have read the referenced comic of that man's career. I am currently too stoked on Hawaiian drinks to make further comment, except when it comes to Bolshevikism the score apparently is currently Brother Andrew 3, the Warsaw Pact zero. |
