Bendwyn War Scenario
Here is a vague War Scenario set in Dran using Map of Bendwyn.
This is a scenario for 6 to 12 characters (1 squad depending on Dran troop distribution). These can be Professional Soldiers, part-time soldiers, dilettante warriors or raw recruits. They can be drawn from guards and sheriff’s men, hunters, lumberjacks, slaves, knights, etc., even wizards. They can be from 30 points to 34 with one or two 36 point characters. There will probably be a professional sergeant and a corporal. The Dran Army may have outfitted all the soldiers in the same armor and weapons; some with same armor/weapons and filled in with older armor and different types of weapons; or every man equipped himself with what he has until the army can be similarly equipped. Overall Situation: You are at recently at war with • the Duchy of Kel or the former nation of Tanander. • Or there is a rebellion in the Duchy of Dran. • Or the Orcs or Dwarves or Elves, etc. You are a member of the Dran Army. (Note: the “YOU” character does not have to be the top ranked character.) Your Company is assembling at Lake Entarr. In fact, last fortnight the Duke has called his war council to mobilize the Counts & Barons for war. The enemy will have to take Bridgeport to control the south and your army needs to make sure the Southern Gargoye’s road is clear to Kel River. It is not known whether the enemy has moved troops to the Bright River highway. There has not been any contact with Bridgefort in three days. The weather is slightly cloudy, but without rain. Your general orders: Your squad of soldiers has been dispatched to scout Bendwyn for the Duke’s army. You are to make contact with any representative of Bridgefort and get status on the fort. You are to ascertain the whereabouts of the enemy. You are to determine the allegiance of the people along the way. You are to dispatch any enemy spies that you might uncover. You want to be as inconspicuous as possible, but if you need to fight to get away, then that is what you will do. It is more important to get accurate data back to the Captain, than kill enemy. You have been given mounts to get you there faster. For those who don’t have horsemanship, I hope you don’t get in a fight while mounted. Your immediate orders: You are to rendezvous with the scribe that is located in Bendwyn and give him a small locked strongbox (GM to determine what is in the box). From your eavesdropping, you have guessed that the scribe is a spy for the duke. One of your troopers visited his wife's family from Bendwyn, so knows the layout. He draws you a rough map of the village. - - - - - - - - - - - - The GM will determine (roll a die or choose) the following battle levels for Bendwyn:
The GM decides how far the enemy has gotten between Bright River road and King Ater River. Is the Front Line at Bridgefort or the Main Highway or Bendwyn? Are there enemy scouts along SG Road? Are there any enemy spies in the area? The GM will determine the quantity, disposition and attitudes of the villagers, defenders, enemy. The GM can either game the journey to Bendwyn or just say that the squad has gotten to within a mile of the village, made camp and have crept up to the edge. The player characters will be able to tell the battle level that the village is at when they get within ½ mile (due to burning buildings, sighting enemy on guard or general nonchalance of civilians farming. It is an hour after sunrise when the game starts.
