Default Ambassador Vs Curse

If you are an Ambassador, and you encounter a curse that says you lose the item currently giving you the biggest bonus, and the item currently giving you the biggest bonus is the ship of another player, does the other player lose the ship? It seems to fit the criteria of the curse, as it is an item, it is giving you the bonus, and Ambassador doesn't say you get a bonus equal to the bonuses of the ships of the other players, but the bonuses OF the ships of the other players.

It is not your Item to lose. You lose the Item that you actually possess that gives the largest bonus.

But it doesn't say "YOUR item that gives you the biggest bonus;" it says "THE item that gives you the biggest bonus." Since "The" is an all-encompassing term that would pertain to all items on the table(which, for 99% of circumstances, other players' items would be giving you a bonus of 0), then another player's ship would seem to be a valid target. And since Curses can effect players that did not draw them, such as Bad Steed Feed, Garlic Powder, Cold Iron, Everything is Relative, etc., my argument is not without precedent.

Thank you for this time not framing your post as "I accept your ruling but want to argue anyway." I am happy to answer questions from people who are genuinely confused or honestly wish to disagree, but I don't have the time or desire to dance for other people's entertainment.

That said, I am comfortable allowing my ruling to stand. It's weird for a character to get bonuses from Items that she doesn't actually have and I think it actually makes the Ambassador too powerful to ALSO allow them to force other players to give up cards by a Curse that they could play on themselves.
