Cheat and fire arms.

Character has the three handed sword, and plays a cheat card on it to be able to use it. Then the player gets and plays the fire arms card, which gives a bonus of +3 for each empty hand. Does the three handed sword now count as taking up zero hands, so the player gets an additional +6, or does something else happen?

If the Three-handed sword is being used with a Cheat card then his hands are empty. So yes, he gets the full +6 bonus for Fire Arms.

Basically, once an item is cheated, it does not take up ANY slots, although it still retains its characteristics (a big item is still big, but does not take up a big slot).
