If you're looking for alternate IST timelines, this thread on Bob's forums is about as official as we're going to get any time soon...
I was just posting my explanation to cover any areas of doubt in my own campaign. Your mileage may vary, and the ultimate "official" solution may be something completely different yet.

Unless, of course, Bob approaches e23 about a 4e update.

Concerning the use of 9/11 and al-Qaeda in IST, here's what I posted on Shroek's forum earlier:

Quote:
Personally, I think al-Qaeda's a bit low-power to be a world-class threat in a superhero world as it is in the real world. Instead, my idea was to have it absorbed, alongside other radical islamic terror groups, into a larger organisation with better funding, and actual air, sea and land power. In short, something like Hasbro's Cobra, DC's Kobra or Hero's Viper, but with an islamic bent. Led by a fanatical and charismatic military genius, and equipped with high-tech weaponry and the ruthlessness to use them, this organisation's overall goal would be uniting the Middle East into a single Islamic Empire worthy of the heirs of Ali.

I really should get off my duff and do up a proposal for the IST 2 ebook.
Sounds like you and he need to get on the phone :-)

If or should I say When! IST gets a 4e update could we expect to see a Infinity World setting for IST also?

I would have loved to see IW IST world update as a last chapter in Gurps Supers 4e but heck that’s just me.

Presumably, during the year 2000, all hell breaks loose. The Harvesters from GURPS Monsters are the closest official answer to what happened, but I'm not sure it has Mr. Shroeck's seal of approval.
Hmm, for one that generally likes the read "end of the wold" stories in comics, can someone kindly resume me about what happened to justify the "blank wall of precognition" which way piqued my curiosity ? In order to slightly curb my otherwise exceedingly completist RPG buying, I made myself a rule of never buying monster manual books. So I was blissfully unaware of anything about GURPS Monsters.

Well, as I said earlier in the thread, it appears to be a Canon Area of Doubt (or, in other words, a "GM's Preserve"). It's up to each GM to decide what happened to create The Wall in his own game.

The Harvesters, IIRC, are mean, tough beasties - an entire supers team would have trouble putting down one of them, and there's more than one. Their wiping out all intelligent life on Earth would explain The Wall, assuming the GM goes with the "precognition is mind-reading of someone in the future" theory.

A reality quake would also explain The Wall; physical laws could be subtly different on each side of the quake. (This is an excuse to change the game from GURPS 3e to GURPS 4e. <g>) This would imply that postcognition wouldn't see past The Wall once the timeline gets past it.

And there are no doubt other explanations...

Just for the record, there was something similar in the comics: The "Iron Curtain of Time" created by the Time Trapper in Legion of Superheroes: a barrier that prevented the Legionaries from physically traveling into their own future. The original reason for this was, I believe, to explain why the Legion didn't just go to their own future, find out what was going to happen, and then prevent it. In other words, a plot device. Note the barrier didn't prevent people *from* their future from visiting them or other eras, thought (as was the case with the Adult Legion of Super Villains attacking Superman.)

I'm not sure what happened with this later, though. It may have turned out that the catastrophic "five years later" Legion's future was behind the Curtain.

Anyway, I hope there is no big disaster behind the Wall in an updated IST; I'm no fan of such settings, not for super heroes.
