Re: [High-Tech] Military Equipment: Global War on Terror edition
Possibly this is one of the vehicles collections in question, if so it saves me the trouble of writing up the M113 and the M2 Bradley.
Edit: Also covers the Stryker. Last edited by Michael Thayne; 03-30-2017 at 08:09 AM. |

Re: [High-Tech] Military Equipment: Global War on Terror edition
This vehicles collection may also be useful. Includes a treatment of the Apache pretty similar to what I came up with, though I wonder about the basis for the DR stats—I can believe DR 30 for key areas but DR 15 all-around seems like a lot for an aircraft. Maybe more knowledgeable people than I can defend it?
The same PDF also has stats for the M230. Includes proposed handling of HEDP ammo, as well as alternate "API" (armor-piercing incendiary). The damage on the latter seems low—no better than .50 caliber weapons. Maybe someone else can defend it though? |

Re: [High-Tech] Military Equipment: Global War on Terror edition
Self-propelled artillery is tricky. The M270 MLRS appears to mainly fire cluster munitions, so I'll save it until I deal with bombs. The M142 HIMARS appears to be similar. The M109 Paladin seems most in need of a full treatment:
M109 Paladin ST/HP: 152 Hnd/SR: -3/5 HT: 10f Move: 1/17 SM: +4 Occ: 4S DR: 50 Range: 216 Loc.: 2CTX The TL9 160mm howitzer from Pyramid #3/37 can probably stand in for the main gun. DR is based on Google saying it has 1.25" aluminum armor and another source saying aluminum provides about 60% of the protection of steel. |

Re: [High-Tech] Military Equipment: Global War on Terror edition
Anti-aircraft vehicles: smaller ones use Stinger missiles. Large ones can probably get away with using the 400mm TL9 missiles from Pyramid #3/37 as stand-ins.
Update: in the name of strict real-world accuracy, it's worth mentioning that, the missile in the Pyramid article is closest to real world subsonic long-range missiles like the Tomahawk. A supersonic missile of similar size might have range 1,000/20,000. In any case, an appropriately-sized HE warhead is probably going to inflict around 6dx30 [6dx3] cr ex damage. This is a great thread, Michael Thayne.
Note, you forgot a bold title in post #17. |

Re: [High-Tech] Military Equipment: Global War on Terror edition
I'm not going to try to do a full treatment of watercraft here, because this is a "War on Terror" thread, not a "WWIII in the 21st century" thread. Therefore, there are only a couple main cases for the combat statistics watercraft to be relevant:
First, they might be targets in a terrorist attack. For these purposes, I'd probably build them as spaceships of the appropriate tonnage, with streamlined hulls and one system dedicated to steel armor per hull section. That's a very crude approximation, but it's enough to give you a rough idea of how much explosives the terrorists will need to seriously damage one. The other reason for combat statistics to come into play is when providing fire support. A 127mm naval gun should probably do something like 6dx7 cr ex [6d] with a range of at least 35,000 yards. |

Naval guns usually fire in batteries with fire direction.

Modern naval vessels don't tend to have that many guns. They almost certainly have computer targeting for the one or two guns they do have.

Re: [High-Tech] Military Equipment: Global War on Terror edition
Last US vehicle I'll do for awhile—one without which no 2017 motor pool would be without:
MQ-1 Predator Drone ST/HP: 42 Hnd/SR: +1/3 HT: 10f Move: 3/67 SM: +4 Occ: 0 DR: 3 Range: 675 Loc.: WrWiX Stall: 31 Acceleration is a guess based on canonical stats for other TL8 propeller-driven aircraft. Weapons are Stinger missiles, Hellfire missiles, and the AGM-176 Griffin, which has a 140mm warhead, probably 6dx8 [7d] cr ex, with a range of 22,000 yards (not sure about speed). |
