Re: Harmony Gold vs. BattleTech, Round N
I'm asking why the US courts didn't see Japanese courts reasoning.

Re: Harmony Gold vs. BattleTech, Round N
Because the USA isn't Japan. The two countries have different laws, different values, and different ideas of what justice is - on the whole, they're similar, but they are not a 100% match.

Re: Harmony Gold vs. BattleTech, Round N
Though comity often means that they're honored; for example, marriage and divorce in other countries are generally honored unless they're contrary to public policy in this country. However, the Harmony Gold rights might be in this country (you'd have to go into the weeds about just what the Japanese court actually ruled, and on what).

Re: Harmony Gold vs. BattleTech, Round N
A lot of the confusion with the Macross (and other anime) copyrights outside of Japan is because a lot of licenses were signed before there was a coherent international agreement.

This is getting very close to a technical legal discussion that we would rather not host on our forums. Please move on.

SidAlpha has posted an update video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3Z3...&feature=share
Piranha Games has filed a motion to dismiss with prejudice, stating that Harmony Gold does not hold the copyright on the images in question. |

Re: Harmony Gold vs. BattleTech, Round N
Here are links to the latest important documents in this case.
First, Piranha's Motion to Dismiss: https://www.scribd.com/document/3660...mmary-Judgment Second, Harmony Gold's Motion to Amend: https://www.scribd.com/document/3660...mend-Complaint Note that the Motion to Amend is 67 pages long, as it includes the proposed amended complaint. Again, I am presenting these documents without commentary. |

Piranha is not letting Harmony Gold off the hook for a second. Hot on the heels of HG's Second Motion to Amend comes this:
