Default Divine Intervention

Player A was level 9 and a cleric. Player B had previously been dead but it was now their turn. Player B draws 4 doors and 4 treasures. Among the 4 door cards were these:

- Steal a Level
- Divine Intervention

Some players said that the Steal a Level card could be played to take a level from player A before the Divine Intervention card took effect. Player A of course raised their voice very loudly and stated Divine Intervention MUST be played as soon as the card is drawn regardless of what cards were drawn. You can't draw the cards one by one and play them, can you?

Thoughts?

Divine Intervention must be played as soon as it is drawn. Player A won the game.

Out of curiosity, if they drew Steal A Level before drawing Divine Intervention, could they have played it before they finished drawing all their cards, or do they have to wait until they finish drawing to play anything that DOESN'T specify that it must be played immediately?

Cards are drawn simultaneously. You cannot draw one, play it, and then draw more.

This is why I asked the question. I play with a veteran (and cutthroat) group.
