Default This cleric kills Evil.

How about somebody else to join that martial artist, bard, knight, and wizard? Nobody ever said that clerics had to be heal-bots . . .

Albi Holyaxe
248-point Dwarven Cleric
Albi is a cleric of the dwarven goddess of shield maidens. Stanchly virtuous, she obeys laws, speaks no lies, and is willing to die for those around her. Indeed, she truly believes this is the order of things, and that most people are honest and honorable at heart – that's why she's willing to lay down her life.

One thing Albi is not, however, is some impoverished, wound-patching, pacifist monk. Like any dwarf, she values gold, though she prefers to pry it from the cold, dead hands of Evil. And like all in her sect, she's an implacable foe of Evil, hurling herself against the forces of darkness with fanatical zeal and no concern for her personal safety.

Albi considers herself a fighter, which is evident in her spells – she buffs herself and her allies, drawing on her considerable stamina to do so. She especially values damage output, and uses Flaming Weapon and Might (and her Heroic Might ability) to augment this. She also knows a bit about slaying evil spirits.

When Albi's personal energy runs low, she draws on her power item: an exquisite dwarven shield that holds 8 FP. Her most prized personal possession is her equally well-made axe, however, which bears a blessing from her goddess that ensures it always finds its way home.

I'll point out that a player who's good at convincing the GM to alter template assumptions and spell lists might be able to argue for replacing the 8 points in Diagnosis, Esoteric Medicine, First Aid, and Surgery with, say, 2 points in each of Armory, Leadership, Strategy, and Tactics, if there's no holy warrior whose toes would be stepped on by that – and for swapping Sunbolt for the slightly more dwarf-appropriate Stone Missile (I'm pretty sure the goddess of shield maidens would approve). Obvious short-term goals for this character would be metal armor and more ST for bashing things (and carrying that armor). But as she stands, she can make a mark on a battle in her own right, especially when she uses Holy Might to get +2 to +12 to ST and/or decides to spend a few FP on Might for another +1 to +5.

Though the party would probably be wise to find another healing option, if she's your cleric.

This seems like taking what should be an standard operating procedure as a quirk. Unless she searches them in the middle of a fight, or when they should be running, in which case I'd think this would be worse than a quirk.

It's a quirk because of the previous quirk. Translation: Here's this very honest and honorable person who would probably have a real problem with thievery and grave-robbing, but when she commits the slain legions of Evil to her goddess for cleansing, she's quietly sweeping the rings and gold fillings into her pocket. In every adventuring party I've played a character in, that would merit the whole one point it garners. ;)

So the quirk is actually "Is a bit of a hypocrite"? How does she feel about looting chests and stuff?

There's nothing hypocritical going on. She's not breaking any laws or telling any lies or otherwise being skeevy. She's claiming the due she feels Evil owes her goddess, both in souls and in gold . . . Remember that in the DFRPG, all dwarves – including the most honest ones and including their gods – are greedy, greedy, greedy. But doubtless others might find her debt-collecting a bit worrisome, so there's cause for the GM to cause a little hassle for her on occasion.

As for looting chests: Of course that's fine. The loot of Evil belongs to Good anyway. But here's an example of how that quirk could bite her! While she's off saying sacrificial prayers and yanking fillings, her associates are cracking open chests and getting into the real treasure. :)

Other than the hypocrisy inherent to crusading in general. Battle not with monsters...

She might be breaking the laws of the Lich Emperor, King of Eternal Darkness, but of course she doesn't see those as valid.

As Honesty says:
In uncivilized wilderness or a dungeon, you’re free to slaughter monsters and bandits, loot the bodies, and pillage their treasure. You needn’t recognize the "laws" of Evil: dark lords, demons, etc.

You tend to assume that other civilized humanoids – not monsters – are as honest as you are.

What did Evil ever do to deserve this?
