Innate Attack and Long-Range
Was wondering... what's the default range setup for Long-Range? Is it -1 / yard like a spell or does Innate Attacks use the speed/range chart?
Also, does Long-Range start from (for example if it's the speed/range chart) at the speed table and then 1 level of it takes it up to the Long Distance Modifiers? |

Re: Innate Attack and Long-Range
Innate Attack starts at the Speed/Range table.
Increased Range (p. B60) doubles range for each +10% enhancement. Roughly, it is really *2, *5, *10, etc. Long Range (Powers, p. 108) increases the type of range by 1 step per +50%. So Regular (-1/yard), SSR, Long Range Modifers, no range penalty). Since Innate Attack uses the SSR it goes up to Long Distance modifiers. Long Range is close to the same in value but easier for many to use in play as its less math.

Re: Innate Attack and Long-Range
Innate Attacks use the Speed/Range chart's range penalties by default.
A level of Long-Range (Powers pp. 108-9) would take them up to using the Long-Distance modifiers, but does not increase the 1/2D or Max ranges. You need to use Increased Range (Basic p. 106 for that), and I doubt using both is often worthwhile.

Re: Innate Attack and Long-Range
Well, I'm looking at doing this with a burning power:
Increased Range (x2) +10% Increased Range (1/2D Range Only x10) +15% Long-Range (+1) +50% This gives me a ranged burning attack with no range modifiers until 200 yards - right? There's other mods, Magic Power -10%, Costs ER 1 -5%, and Accessibility: Can only be powered by ER -5%, makes each level 8 points for the burning and no ranged mods until over 200 yards, opinions? |

Increased Range, LOS (+40%) (from GURPS Power-Ups 4: Enhancements, +. 15) Long-Range (+50%) Yes, cost increases to 9.5/level (without your mods), but now you are essentially artillery too - if you can see it (even through binoculars) you can target it. If you just want to ignore range penalties completely, you're better off with two levels of Long-Range for 10/level and then increasing the range as you've noted.

Re: Innate Attack and Long-Range
Well... I want to have a character that has powers, but not so much so that it overloads the game.
While the Artillery concept sounds neat... after looking up Increased Range LOS - that's not really the flavor I'm looking for. 200 yards / 600 feet with no range penalties is fine for me, that gives it a nice 'comic-book' power feel to me without making other players potentially useless. |
