[HR]Expanding Technique Usage
I can't find the other thread that mentioned house rules to expand the usage of techniques. But here's my thought:
We've already got a mechanic for getting free stuff in a martial art. It's the "Style Perks." For every ten points spent on techniques and required skills, the player gets one Style Perk. So why can't a Style Perk be "one level of a technique"? (Maybe limit it to one level per technique? Cannot be purchased with character points?) The trade-off then exists. For Aikijutsu, for instance (first one in the book...), they have Style Perks of Armor Familiarity, Power Grappling, and Sure Footed (uneven), as well as the Technique of Arm Lock, Breakfall, Disarming (Judo), Ground Fighting (Judo), Low-Fighting (Judo), and Trip (plus optional Finger Lock). Each "perk" would require 10 points in the martial art, so it'd be a trade-off unless the player was super-specialized. Thoughts, opinions, sarcastic remarks? :-) |

Re: [HR]Expanding Technique Usage
Style Perks aren't free, they cost 1 point as normal.
You are limited to 1 style perk per 10 points in required skills/techniques (plus an additional 1 perk per 20 points in combat skills) |

QFT. You are expected to pay for every Style Perk. The advantage of having a style is that you are allowed to buy more of them than you normally could.
