Default Singularity seal Apocalypse

The singularity seal says to discard all cards in play and draw 4 doors and 4 treasures as though you were just starting the game.

My gaming group recognizes that in play means cards on the table but we are wondering if the cards in hand are discarded as well since at the start of the game you have no cards in hand to begin with.

With the Singularity Seal, are cards in the hand kept or are they discarded along with all cards in play?

It doesn't mention hand cards, so it doesn't affect hand cards.

The rules are very clear on this point:
