Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
It was standard practice, in my experience with the SCA, that anytime a heavy combat demo was done for the public, we tried to get the most acrobatic people who were in the SCA to put on demonstrations of just how little plate armor would hinder you.
I do say most acrobatic, because while I could show off by doing jumping jacks, pushups, running, and simple rolls in armor, I can't do cartwheels without armor so... But my experience was that with properly fitted armor, even with those who insisted on trying to get it as accurate as possible, it really didn't limit your mobility much. At least for gross mobility. Fine manipulation with mitten gauntlets... not going to try cooking with them on.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
After something like a three-month pause (Peter says 1/9/2015), we return to the Castle of the Mad Archmage. We'd abandoned the arena, and returned to Level 3, looking for stuff to kill and loot in the fine, grand old tradition of delvers everywhere.
And yes, somewhere in this writeup, we get a ballista shot at us.

The party continues the chaos we started many adventures ago, as we escort the Bishop of Mitra back to their Temple. We keep thinking that we're done with the big combats. We keep being wrong.

Friday, April 17 was Swords and Wizardry appreciation day, and since I've been involved in a S&W campaign for a bit thanks to the kind invitation of Erik Tenkar, I thought I'd throw my own thoughts into the ring.

Lots of pictures of the crafting project that will eventually put my daughter in armor themed from Wonder Woman but taken straight from the history books in terms of pattern. The linothorax and helm were both modeled after what were supposed to be historical reproductions.
Anyway, more game content later this week. But for today . . . SHE IS WONDER WOMAN.

After we get a bucket of cold water thrown on our fight by a bunch of mercenary NPCs, we try and pull on the few threads remaining to us that might connect us to the dragon Pan Calderax. Mostly a bunch of maneuvering and setup this game.

We charge without a plan into the den of a 6th level Warlock, the glasstaff, a 5th or so level thief (maybe more), and a few footsoldiers. Marcus the Paladin gets smacked around for maybe 71 HP of damage this fight.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
Gothridge Manor #8, an Old-School Zine, is out, and contains an article by Peter Dell'Orto and I bringing the concepts in Technical Grappling to the OSR, and by extension to all of D&D.
Check it out - it's a simple, streamlined, easily understandable ruleset (or at least I think so) that should add a great deal to one of the oldest forms of human combat. And don't forget: grappling is for *monsters* too . . .
