A hollow body of metal with human weight would have a skin of around 5mm thick for bronze or iron; DR 6 is on the low side for penetrating that, but for causing damage, it might be reasonable.

Outside the skull, a human has no DR but provides several DR when used as cover. It seems reasonable that an animated hollow bronze person would provide more DR as cover than they had to resist injury to themselves. Armor is effectively cover DR you carry on you, and one of the LT Companions has armor protecting itself at a lower value than it protects the wearer.

An interesting number crunching and modeling puzzle.

Edit: The Golem spell is also a "you get what you pay for" enchantment, so a lower quality/energy version may weaken the material it is animating, giving it lower DR and HP than the mundane object had.

Pretty sure it just fails in that case.

I can't tell you what the DR should be though.
