Default [Basic/Powers] Low or No Signature And Visible

OK, Low or No Signature is B109 and Visible is P112. Both of these Modifiers effect whether or not your attack, power or other effect can be seen. The problem is what is and isn't effected. Low or No Signature says: 'An attack normally has a “signature”: a flash of light, a sound, etc.', so Innate Attack and probably Affliction and Binding as well, seems simple enough.

Unfortunately since buying MH1 I've been a bit confused on that front, PK used Low or No Signature several times on DR, now this makes sense for the times that it's got the Force Field enhancement, but the other times?

So when can you apply each of these?

These are all pretty obvious. Visible is applied to abilities that have no notable signature like Mind Control, Clairsentience, Warp, etc. Low/No Signature an be applied to abilities that do have obvious signatures: Innate Attacks, Binding, Affliction, and so on. You can also apply "Low/No (Supernatural) Signature" for abilities that are part of powers which are harder to detect than normal.

Because DR is assumed to be obvious or visible in the first place - the second paragraph goes into examples. It's an implicit part of DR.

According to the basic set only Attacks have signature. But powers extends that on page 163.

It says that any effect that is not completely passive or based on a mental-
influence advantage is "visible" to some human sense if it does not have no signature.

Thus the DR abilities that are triggerable are apparently visible unless no signature.

Thus DR is 5 points/level and undetectable apparently.

DR(cost FP) is 4.75 points/level and detectable by something. So to get a cost FP+undetactable you need the no signature for a total cost of 5.75/point...

The second costs more points because it ia obviously more powerful *roll eyes*

Normally armor is visible, and you can look at an animal and tell it has DR - the scales or armor plates give it away. Admittedly there is some inconsistence for low values of DR (tough skin), but that's the theory. If you have DR with No Signature, you can't tell by looking, and need something like a full medical exam or to actually try to cut into it to discover it.

@weby, I think that sorta answers what promoted me to ask the question, afflicting someone with a mental Disadvantage probably counts as a 'mental influence advantage', especially if it's Always On

@malloyd, in a cinematic campaign DR with Tough Skin probably isn't going to be noticeable ever

I'd still like a complete list defining which Advantages has innate signature and which don't.

SO would I, or at least some better guidelines. Personally I can't imagine how unmodified Affliction can have a visible effect.

And personally I'd say that Malediction probably removes any, how many Regular spells have anything travel between the caster and the target?

Unmodified Affliction is a ranged attack, so I can easily see it being a beam of some sort.

I think it could be a great item in the FAQ:

- Which is the list of powers/traits that can be modified by "Low signature/No signature"? Same with "Visible"?

For example: is it visible a benefical affliction/malediction? a Force field? Magic Resistance that is switched on and off expending FP? DR with though skin? a Paladin Aura?

It's obvious to me that any Affliction is visible unless it has No Signature.
