In the version of the myth where his mother was Thetis the nymph, she also bathed him in the Styx granting him invulnerability to harm except for the heel she grasped to dip him as a newborn.

Yes, but he was not a demigod (in Greek myth, divinity transferred from father to child, not mother to child). The prophecy of Thetis stated that if she had a child with a god, she would bear the most powerful of gods. If she had a child with a man though, it said that she would bear the most powerful of men. Zeus quickly married her off to a mortal man and threatened dire harm to any god who slept with her because he feared that any divine child by her would usurp him.
