Re: August 4, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: 1/64 Scale
Great to get some Illuminator news on Car Wars.
I'm actually partial to the smaller HO cars that will make tabletop distances seem more roomy. However, I haven't considered all the potential marketing strategies of the Hot Wheels compatible scale. This is the classic kind of game that I hope becomes a real hit and inspires lots of expansion opportunities. |

Re: August 4, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: 1/64 Scale
While it's not a super-common scale (in the US, I think in Europe it's more popular,) 1/64 scale is S scale for model trains, so scenery and such can still be found, with perhaps a bit less selection than HO (or going up to 1/48 scale, O scale.)

Re: August 4, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: 1/64 Scale
Quite happy here to hear that there's going to be some regular new on Car Wars.
The move to the larger scale is a good one. A very good one in my view. The compromise between the Classic scale and Hot Wheels scale that had been being used to this point garnered more drawbacks than benefits in my opinion. Also a suggestion... did you consider putting together a survey from those who attended FnordCon to gather feedback on Car Wars specifically?

This is welcome news indeed! I look forward to learning more as this goes on, right up until I have the game in my adorable fluffy paws.

Re: August 4, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: 1/64 Scale
1/64 is also 25mm scale which has crept off towards 33mm / 1/48 these days but it would make Ral Partha's modern and postapocalyptic ranges in scale with the cars. It would also be in scale with older Grenadier ranges like Shadow Run and Call of Cthulhu and RAFM's range of the same name. Sadly Ral Partha's Shadow Run and Grenadier's Future Warriors stuff is more 28mm and a bit big for 1/64. Hot Wheels, on the other hand, have a package size, not a scale.
I was hoping for HO but hey! 25mm is good too.

Re: August 4, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: 1/64 Scale
While HO scale has far more buildings and scenic materials available, 1:64 by far is the predominant scale for diecast cars. It's a trade-off.
Unless you choose to go with living self-aware vehicles from the Pixar "Cars" universe in your Car Wars games, in which case the scale is 1:55 for Mattel offerings, and 1:48 for those from the Disney Store. Who wants to outfit Lightning McQueen with auto-cannons and armor plate? |

Re: August 4, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: 1/64 Scale
However, I Got a lot of NASCAR Diecast in my house because I can't wait to use them for the new sixth edition of Car Wars so I'm planning to buy more NASCAR Diecast as well as a Number of Hot Wheels (and maybe Matchbox stuff) so it could be exciting.

Re: August 4, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: 1/64 Scale
You can do a lot on a standard card table at that scale (as long as the vehicle sheets are elsewhere)
Since you're scaling to allow players to use their Hot Wheels, will blank bases be included?

Scale doesn't bother me -- I mix and match all the time, particularly with the stuff around my train set at Christmas.
