ogre vs. ogre questions.
Do many of you run OGRE versus OGRE scenarios? If so how did they play out? Is there a a points system for it? Is a Mark V roughly comparable to to Mark IIIs?

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.
The rulebook list armor equivalents for each type of Ogre. A Mark III is 17 AU and a Mark V is 25 AU.
I recently ran a four-way battle where each side had a Mark III and conventional units. Click the link to my blog for details.

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.
All the time!
The game has a point system for DIY scenarios (actually, it has two!). Victory Points (or just "VPs" amongst us the cognoscenti) and Armor Units ("APs", sometimes misspelled "Armour Units" in Paneuropean countries). Six Victory Points equal one Armor Unit, so the two are equivalent. Of course, a discerning mind such as your own will quickly grasp that three Mark-IIIs at 100 VPs each are not equal to two Mark-Vs listed at 150 VP each, whatever the math says. 3 Mains, 12 Secondaries, 6 missiles, and 135 treads not being the equal to 4 Mains, 12 Secondaries, 12 missiles, and 120 treads. Any point system has its limitations. A more even match up would be 5 Mark-IIIs versus 3 Mark-Vs: enough for you and seven friends! Let us know how it turns out. |

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.
My numbers say that two Mark Vs slightly overmatch three Mark IIIs, instead of the other way around.

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.
In these scenarios, jockeying for first strike is fun. One reasonable tactic is for larger Ogres to ram smaller Ogres for the sake of a mobility advantage. End games that come down to a fiesta of ramming among weapons-stripped Ogres strike me as a bit dull, though.

Henry, that's what I said: 2xMk5 > 3xMk3.
3 versus 5 is more even a match. Unless of course you weren't replying to my post. In that case: Nevermind /Gilda |

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.
So have a scenario like 2 Mark IIIs attacking a CP defended by Mark III plus 14 AU and 15 infantry squads. Good four player scenario.
I was just saying that my math disagrees with the listed numbers.

The hard part is getting an Ogre to let you saw it in half. ;)

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.
I would recommend using ramming instead of overruns for close combat. Games will tend to become demolition derbies but overruns can become enjoyable bloodbaths. If there are no D0 or infantry units on the board you might want to just ignore AP batteries because they're useless in these battles.

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.
I did a 6 player game with MK Vs. I thought everyone would hang back and hammer with missiles and main batteries. No, it turned into a demolition derby.
Awesome! Al |
