It's better than the Joseph Special

Use AM's excellent vehicle builder - like Sword said something seems not right.

https://carwars.opentools.org/

In general I'd say you've got the classic 'everything = nothing' problem. You've designed a racer with a lot of guns, so what is this thing supposed to do? It's fast, but it has inaccurate front-mounted weapons that require it to get up close and personal, but doesn't have the armor to survive.

Here's a sporty vehicle from AM's stock vehicle list comparable in price(not mine):

Flamenco 2065 -- Compact, Extra-Heavy chassis, Heavy suspension, Large power plant w/PC, High-Torque Motors, 4 Steelbelted Puncture-Resistant tires, Driver w/SWC and BA and PFE, Machine Gun Front, Flaming Oil Jet Back, Link (FOJ, MG), Plastic Armor: F44, L35, R35, B44, T12, U15, 2 8-pt Wheelguards Back, 2 8-pt Wheelhubs Front, Acceleration 10 (+5 w/HTMs), Top Speed 120, HC 3, 4198 lbs., $11750

Makes sense. Mystery solved ;).

Are you using 1st edition because that is all you have, or is it a preference thing (CW did suffer from supplement overload and things kept changing until it became a configuration nightmare).

If you want a more recent version with some more options for plants and the more advanced rules to work out top speed and range, check out the following link:

Thanks for the tip! I personally play first edition because the pocket game look and smaller rulebook are less intimidating for new players. I have classic, but I have a hard time getting people to try it. My plan for now is to play 1st edition (really hyped for the reprints), and pick up the supplements I actually want to use. Truck Stop, Sunday Drivers, and Uncle Al's 2035 catalog (maybe with some of the updates) seem like the killer combo for me.

Mini Car Wars is also a great start as it greatly simplified the game mechanics (and it's cheaper than dirt).

It lacks a design system (but is compatible with designs from the main game), the movement rules are simplified (and I don't dislike the way control rolls are handled).

Reminds me: I found the "one roll control chart" I came up with years and years ago, based on the MCW chart....

Also, I have a couple of MCW designs "filled out" for mainstream-CW use:

Rocket Special [from _Mini Car Wars_]

Midsize; XH chassis; Hv. susp.; Su. PP [2,600 PF]; 4x PR tire; Dr., Gn. 1-sp. Tu.; MG [Tu.]; RL [F]. Armor: Body: 240 pts. P [F, T: 50; L, R, B: 40; U: 20]; Tires: 2x 2-pt. PWG [F]; 2x 3-pt. PWG [B]. $13,690; 5,760 lbs. Acc.: 5; TS: 112.5; HC: 2

Opt.: rm. Gn., 28 pts. A [F, L, R, B, T: 40; U: 12]; add RL [F], Link [RLs], 30 pt. WG A [all tires: 10]. $14,942; 5,756 lbs.

Opt.: rm. Gn., Tu., MG, RL; add 2-sp. Tu., Ls [Tu.], cargo [3 sp.|50 lbs.]. $19,340; 5,760 lbs.

Opt.: rm. Gn., Tu., MG; add 3x HR [2 F; 1 B], 25 pts. A. [F: 65; L, R, B: 55; T: 15; U: 25]. $12,190; 5,760 lbs.

[NOTE: Not a bad design -- undergunned, but well-armored.]

Firelight Deluxe [from _Mini Car Wars_] [corr.]

Hv. Cycle; Hv. Susp.; Su. PP [1,000 PF]; 2x Std. tire; Dr. Ls [F]; Cargo [1 sp.|10 lbs.]. Armor: 10 pts. P [F, B: 5] [1]. $11,420; 1,300 lbs. Acc.: 10; TS: 155; HC: 2.

[1: orig. 12 pts.]

Opt.: rm. Ls, cargo; add MG [F], 2x HR (L) [F], 18 pts. A [F, B: 19] [2]. $5,586; 1,298 lbs.

[2: orig. 17 pts.]

[NOTE: Using the original F and B armor values of 6, the bike is overweight by 2 lbs.]

Shogun 220 by Mini Car Wars:
Medium Cycle; Cycle chassis; Heavy suspension;
Medium Cycle PP;
2 Hvy Duty tires.
Driver.
Rocket Launcher w/10xStandard.
40 pts. Plastic (F: 20 R: 0 L: 0 B: 20 T: 0 U: 0).
Cargo 10lb, no space.
Cost: $3,890, Wgt: 1,090,
HC: 2, Top Speed: 127.5, Accel: 10.

It's hard to get these spot on as Mini Car Wars designs don't have suspension or tire details, but I this is as close as I could get without going over.

Arguably you could change the suspension to Improved and lose the cargo capacity. This this would allow PR tires (which is the standard for the Shogun series cycles), but this only costs $3790.

As I say hard to balance ;)

My policy, as well. :)

I didn't do a _Shogun 220_ myself, as it appeared a little too close to the RL version of the _Aquarius_ from _VG1_; that said:

Shogun 220 [from _Mini Car Wars_]

A quick pass says PR tires are doable, and staying under $5K:

Md. Cycle; Heavy susp.; Md. PP [600 PF]; 2x PR tire; Dr. RL [F]. Armor: 40 pts. P [F, B: 20]. $4,090; 1,100 lbs. Acc.: 10, TS: 125, HC: 2.

UPDATE: Turns out I *did* have a _Shogun 220_, and _Firelight Deluxe_, on file. This is what happens when one has been doing this as long as I have been -- "when the heck did I do *that*!?"

The Duelbuggy from VG2 whilst a nice idea , was often taken out in combat very quickly . Thought a Trike might do a better job & not be so vulnerable :

Trikebuggy : Rev Lt.Trike ,
X-Hvy Chassis , Offroad Suspension , Super Cycle PP w/10pts Component Armour , HTMs , 3 SB PR Offroad Cycle Tires , Cyclist w/SWC & 10pts Component Armour , MG Front , Fake MFR Front , HD Shocks , Spoiler , Airdam , Bushcutter , Plastic Armour F 36 , L 22 ,
R 22 , B 30 , T 10 , U 12 , 2-5pt Wheelhubs Front , 2 Fake Wheelguards F , 1-6pt CWG Back , Acceleration 10mph - 15mph w/HTMs , Top Speed 122.5mph - 90mph w/HTMs , HC 3 - 4 Offroad (4 @60mph+ - 5 @60mph+ Offroad) , 1,919lbs , $11,021 .

( Better handling , smaller target with better protection & Acceleration . It loses the MFR but that was pretty useless outside of point blank range , so no big loss . Body Blades also lost as they came into play so rarely as to be redundant .)
